well, here goes my friends same 85 200x in question here... well after getting spark back into the engine and everything it wouldnt start, so I pulled the carb and cleaned it and there was some gummy stuff in there... looked just like clear rtv. im still running regulaer pump gas in the motor.. its bored to the max, cobra pipe and a uni filter. now when I got the trike it had a 100 main in it .. so i put a 105 in it which it curently has. it ran almost perfect first ride out until it died..... no when i ride it it will start and idle but with i put it in gear and start to give it gas it starts to sputter uncontrolably... better gas>? ... bigger main jet? lets hear it... im so determined to become a 200x expert on every aspect of the bike its not even funny. so whats up with a few comments here fellas
Dammit!

If it's sputtering as soon as you start to accelerate (before wide open throttle) it's not the main jet. Or at least it isn't only the main jet.
How's the plug looking? Is gas getting into the carb freely? Float moving and adjusted properly? Seat working ok?
I doubt very seriously it's the quality of the gas itself.

Is that a high compression piston in there? If so then yeah, higher octane is recommended. I doubt it's responsible for your current problem though. Guess we'll wait for some of the thumper experts to chime in. :D
first off.....try a new spark plug, honda 200's are extramly picky about them, next i would check the carb for loose parts ect....next have you taken the cover off the top of the motor that says CDI on it, pop it off and see if your pulse rotor is loose and jiggling around, and check to see what kind of shape the advanced weights are in, they are behind the pulse rotor they should be fairly tight toghther and not sloping around....try this stuff

What are you doing Saturday?
"theolderfox" is coming out to the farm and we are going to be doing some wrenching then riding. Hopefully, I'll have at least another Yamaha added to my fleet of operational Hondas. (Hmmm... I have 3 Honda's that rin... and 3 Yamaha's that aren't....)
Anyhow.... I'd start with the higher octane gas, but like others said... check your gas delivery for restrictions, get a NGK spark plug, boots/air filter, etc. Back to basics man! The thing that is wierd is that it ran good when you first changed the jet. Important to "chop test" your plug and use a new plug with each change so you can "dial-in" the carb. Have you recleaned your carb since it "died"? Might have some trash caught up in the other areas. (needle seat.... pilot jet.... main jet...)

ok ok ive been getting so into detail with this thing the last few months its freakin rediculus ... but! today my people i put my head to it and it took my leteraly less then 5 minites to find out just what was wrong with it.... well to start off i was missing a bolt on the carb boot. well when i pulled off the carb i looked at the oring.... well that was shot and had a one inch piece gone. so that was replaced and i figuerd id better clean and look over the carb anyway. well popped off the carb bowl ... o .. wiat .. wats this???!! .. yup damn main jet fell into my hand. cleaned her up put her back together and she runs!!!.. well mid range shes got a small stutter but thats from the needle clip when i was playing with that ill move that back tomorrw and tell uyeas if the stutters gone..... haaaaa yess .. the basics :TrikesOwn

108 Main is the stock size for that 200X. You almost certainly* would have to jet up from stock at least 1 size when you bolted on the new Pipe. Whats the altitude up there in Rochester?. If you are above 2500 ft, then in theory, that would explain the lower jet size because of thinner air compensation.
(* but not always - TimSr's 1st law of jetting applies here - just because they say you have too, dosent mean its whats best for your individual bike)
