I have the clymer manual for my 84 200X. I noticed lately that my trike is a little low on power. It runs good, starts on 2nd kick cold and seems to idle good. I purchased a compression tester and got a 42psi reading from it. Could this be correct? Bike runs good, start easy, and is pretty strong. I noticed in the manual that it says 156 +/- 14 psi at sea level. I live in Mich and am not sure where I'm at in relation to sea level, but I seriously doubt it changes that much. Can someone confirm this for me.
Thanks,

Does it have a decompression cable? if so, disconect it when you test,,, secondly, you have to kick it over a couple times to get an acurate reading, one kick wont do it,,,,,, I highly doubght your machine would run with 42 psi,,,, I am actually quite sure it would not..... Hope this helps,, let me know
P.S. Yo might have as low as 95-105 and it would still run, but hope for at least 120,,,

yea disconnect your decomp. cable and kick it over with the throttle wide open until the gauge tops out. you should do it after its warmed up

Thanks for the input, it does not have a decompression lever/cable. That started on 86's if I remember correctly, this is an 84 if I didn't say that earlier (sorry). What is a decent compression reading. I know the book says 156 +/- 14. What doe some of you get?

Like I said, as long as you have at least 120lbs. it should run and still have a good amount of life left, anything over that and your good, under that and you will probably want to at least re ring it, possibly a full top end rebuild,,,, Let us know what you end up with

I believe that the 83-85 models had decompression cables....atleast both of my 84's did....and one of them was never broken into or whatever.

Are you sure you don't have an automatic decompression that works off the kickstart?

83 does not. don't think 84-85 does either

An 83-85 200x does NOT have a decompression lever/cable, unless it's got a 200, 200s, 200es, or 185 top end. Both my 185s and 200s motors have decompression levers, but my 200x doesn't.

OK, thanks for letting me know,,,,,

Water, You probably just need to kick it over a few more times to get an acurate reading

I think you also need to hole the throttle wide open during comp. test. At least that is how I do it on my r.

i wasn't playing. Johnathan pretty much summed everything up. you've got a valve not closing or something
