How do tell the difference between a 86 tri-z vin# and 85 tri-z vin#???

HI Guys
I was wondering if anyone that has a 86 and or 85 tri-z bikes out there can tell me what # or letter on my bikes Vin# or motor vin# tells me if it is an 86 or 85 tri-z? I know the 86 tri-z is white and red like mine and the 85 tri-z's were yellow and black or red and black in color. I want to buy another 86 tri-z from a guy that rides at one of the tracks that I ride at but he says his tri-z is a 5 speed tranny and not a 6 speed. I asked for the vin#'s and he is supposed to email me them but he said that some 86 tri-z's that were white and red had 5 speed trannies as well. I know that the 85 1/2 tri-z that is black and red is only a 5 speed and that's what it could be but I would just like to know what # or letter in the vin# or motor vin# designates whether its an 85 or 86 tri-z? I have never seen a 85 tri-z in person nor its vin#'s to compare to mine. I think he just change the plastics on his 85 tri-z and is calling it an 86 or he might have put in a 85 motor into it.
Anyways, if anyone can help me out that would be great.

6 speed tranny were only in 86. Then if its a 5 speed then its a 85 with red-white plastics.

Ill try to dig my VIN up, its somewhere around in my insurance book I got.

85 will have 38W in the vin, and 86 will have 1RX in the vin

on these tri-z's that i bought, ya know the ones at the border. The parts one says at the end of the VIN...000164 does that mean it was the 164th built, or does it mean something else?

85 has a "N" and 86 has a "S" in the vin, i think.
