Does anyone know how much horsepower an '83 200x produced? I'm restoring one right now and wanted to know.

Just had a look in my Honda manuals, and the 83-85 has 18ps and the 86-87 has 19ps. Converting this to HP I think this makes the 83-85 17HP and the 86-87 18HP

Wow...What did the ATC 500R have again? Just kidding...I think it would have been at about 49 to 51...damn!!
Gotta love the KX 500.....Dirt Bike says it puts out 62 at the rear wheel..stock!! Oh God...I love that
Late 80's engine is still the fastest ***EDITED** in the world!!
The KX500's liquid-cooled 499cc two-stroke engine features the Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System (KIPS), and pumps out nearly 65 horsepower for incredible off-road speed and acceleration. Powerful disc brakes in the front and rear rein in those ponies, and fully adjustable suspension components provide more than 12 inches of wheel travel.

The ATC110 motor is usually listed at having 1 more pony than the 90, which gives it 8hp. PS is an alternate unit of power measurement (I believe its derived from German). Japanese PS = @ .90 of the SAE net American Horsepower. I suspect that many european destined Japanese motors in ATV's had more horsepower than their American counterparts - this has been true for almost 50 years of Japanese motorcycle exporting. The American market has much tighter restrictions on power output (this is also why you almost never see horsepower quoted in any American manual or advertising.) It may also be part of the reason why our motors respond so well to exhaust "Modifications". Again though, through many years of articles, research and bits of dyno information I've seen, any American ATC200X from 1983 - 1985 is only going to have 12hp at the rear wheel from the factory, '86 - '87's were said to have 2 more at peak output - 14hp. Look at it this way - '87 was the first year for the TRX250X, which was a larger displacement, much better breathing 4-valve motor, that sucked fuel through a much larger 36mm carb motor than the 2-valve, 28mm carb'ed 200X of the same year. The 250X's output was only 15.7hp.

My father has the bike equivelant to the early 200x engine in his racebike but at 183cc and it makes 22hp. Pump it to 200 and I reckon you could get 25hp.

Seems like honda was kinda slow in the horse power market 18hp or less from a 200cc. Thats why I have two strokes, More power my bike stock at 183cc has a17.5 hp bore it and pipe it with a carb. I'm around 25-27hp

Sorry wickedfinger, Didn't realise you meant at the wheels power, I assume mine from the manuals are the flywheel horsepower :wondering
But, the 110 power in the honda manual is 6.5 hp  Anyway, I think we can agree the 110 is no power house ;) LOL

Jason T .... hey, I find it way more interesting to see what your UK manuals actually say to be honest with you. I'm just going on what I've read - I know the first ad's that came out for the ATC90 had it listed at 7hp. After that, they Honda somwhat sheepishly, listed the ATC110's powers as "One more than our 90 motor". Its actually hard to find ratings for any of the hardtail trike's.

its actually a 6 speed xr200 motor with a 200x cylinder. it has an aussie aftermarket cam, sleeved back to fit a crf150 pistion, lightened crank, shaved head to have 12.5:1 compression, 36mm pumper race carb, oil cooler, hand made megaphone exhaust and the ports have been made larger.
here are some pics of it but it has a different exhaust in close up pics. The overall pic has a megaphone with a silencer.

How is your oil cooler set-up?
It is drilled into the clutch cover. There is an oil passage that you add a bypass out and back in next to it. If you want more details PM me and ill try and get some pics.

My first post actually said" "My father has the bike equivelant to the early 200x engine in his racebike but at 183cc and it makes 22hp. Pump it to 200 and I reckon you could get 25hp."
So its smaller and makes 22hp.
As for an update to that motor, he actually blew it up at a rece meeting! It has gearbox problems whilst flying down the straight. In 3rd looking for 4th, attempted the gear change 3 times (throttle off, clutch in, shift lever, clutch out, throttle on... THREE TIMES) First attempt at 12000rpm, second at 13500rpm last at 14000rpm.... BANG!!! as the valves destroy themselves and punch a hole into the piston and the head of the valve ending up next to the crank!
The new engine will be the same engine with a few changes:
CB125 bike head with stainless steel valves (larger inlet then standard) + same cam
CB125 crank (shorter stroke... down to 48mm)
Piston the same as in Whychens aluminium 200cc ATC70 (chinese engine) 69mm
13:1 compression
Not sure yet on what the final HP will be but will keep you posted.
