ok the gear that spins the axle on my big red was striped (the crown gear but the part the axle goes through) so i got a new one for it from a guy that knows alot about trikes so he said hes sure its for that bike now when i drive it it doesnt seem to acelerate but revs up and goes no faster in everygear the guy that put it together put 10-40 oil in the rearend is this the correct oil to use in the rearend or should it be gear oil i thought it should be the gear oil but would this cause my problem or does anyone have any ideas what it might be

you sure it's not your clutch ?

and your axle whould have hypoid 80 w in it.. that should not cause it not to turn.. but change that oil !!

yeah i'm gonna get that oil changed asap the bike runs and moves just wont accelerate very well or go half as fast as it did before but now that * mentioned it it may be the clutch cause thats what we thought was gone and had it all off but it was fine so buddy put it back in so mayby it needs to be adjusted the we realized the gear was striped

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but what kind of oil is used in the diff? At the local auto store I have only found 75W 90 Hypoid oil, or something like that anyway. Just curious if that's the same chit or not.

I'd say it is definately your clutch mate. If your mate reckons he put a new pinion gear in and if it too wasnt stripped then it has to be the clutch. The oil will not affect it spinning/slipping because its got teeth, it doesnt grab. You better put some proper oil in that diff too mate.

the oil was changed the next day and the gear has teeth cause i bought it and put it on the axle just to make sure it caught on it and it did. my old man got playing with the clutch increase/decrease screw and now the trike wouldnt move at all so a guy that nows alittle more about them came and got the bike the other day but he thinks its something in the gear shift and i dont so i dunno what to do with it if he cant fix it tired of sinking money into it and still not having anything to drive i love trikes but i think i'm gonna go back to 2 wheels i have better luck with them and never had trouble fixing them
