I have the manual but didn't read that portion yet as to how to remove it.
Anyone ever have it off? I have no knowledge of shaft drive what so ever.
Probably not too hard but why not ask for any helpful hints. Sometimes you guys know more then the manuals I have discoverd!
Reason I want to take off is to touch up the underside. While I'm on the subject it has yellow paint (primer :wondering ) underneath the black. This isn't how they came stock is it?

Huffa, I have 3 YTM shaft drives, an E, an ERN & a DX. Never had to do much to the swingarm / diff on any of them, so I can,t help you there, but none of them show any sign of yellow primer on them.

Someone stupid  must have tried to paint it yellow at one time then decided it looked terrible and went over it with black.
That's my theory anyway.
The black looks quite good except where the yellow is on bottom.
Too much of an ordeal to take it off and I'll just turn it on it's side to touch up.

the swingarm is a huge pain in the @$$ to get off. here is how i did it. where the swing arm pivots there should be 2 huge allen bolts with hex head nuts around them covered by plastic pop off covers. Pop off the covers and loosen the nuts with the longest rachet you have. Next find an allenwrench that FITS!!! don't screw around with this you need the right tool! if you have multiple wrenches find the longest one. now find a skinny pipe or something around 2-3 feet long and slide it over the wrench for max leverage. insert wrench into bolt and SLOWLY twist. once you break the thing free loosen it up a little. now with the swingarm propped up seperately from the trike remove the shock from the swingarm(just a nut and bolt where it attaches). If you propped it up propperly you should be able to free the swing arm of the spring w/o it crashing to the floor. now fully remove the bolts at the pivot point and slide the awing arm out the back. If you need to know how to remove the actual axel let me know.

... the only other advice I would give you is soak the allen bolts in WD-40 or pen oil for a while before you try and take them off - he was 100% right with the correct size (i.e. use a metric) allen wrench. If you booger them up, its a nightmare to get them out. (I ended up having to weld on a nut to my right side one).

I'm in the process of doing this with my SX.... don't know if they are the same or not..
But a piece of advice.. if you are taking this apart.. replace the pivot bearings while you're at it !!!
and for the love of god.. SOAK that bad boy every day for a few days it helps ALOT. ( I had a 4 ft pipe at first.. that would not budge it.. i was lifting the bike off the ground and the nut was on there SOLID as a rock.. ) half a can of bel ray oil later and a 2ft bar took it off no sweat !
