yah i have a 85R well after about 4 hours of ridin consisting of anything from idle to WOT mostly WOT my R was runnin alittle hot the radiators were at least 150 degrees if not more they were very warm and so was the engine. what coolant do * guys use??? i need to solve this problem be4 i go out to glamis the 23-24 so all help is appreicated, i called the guy i bought it from and he said the coolent hasnt been changed for about 2 1/2 years, my ? is could this coolant have been broken down and lossing its cooling properties, resulting in my warm tempetures???
thanks for all the help

BTW my r has always run cooler, i know the water pumps workin and also the radiators are clean and have no objects blocking air flow. iam totally in dismay over this

Your jetting could be part of the problem, I've had a motor run hot before just because jetting was out of adjustment. Your pipe got a good seal at the flange? Clean air filter? If everything checks out, try some water wetter.

water wetter???? adam You can buy it at autozone or any auto place. It is a antifreeze additive. It is a real bright pink color liquid. I tried it once and didn't notice the bike running any cooler but now im running engine ice and i like it.

it a additive that you put into distilled water and acts as the coolant, supposbily cools as well as water without the low boiling point.

should run at about 170 degrees on the coolant side. maybe higher if idling around.
probably on the lean side. my R runs all day on 90 degree days in south florida and won't
go above 180 degrees on my coolant gauge (esr). actually cools down at higher speeds
and larger throttle openings, down to like 155-160. never run it above 200.
are the insides of the radiators clean, or are they scaled up where the coolant is.
i use prestone coolant, whatever you use make sure it doesn't attack aluminum

If you are running in the 150 degree range, you do not have an overheating problem!

If you have an overheat'n problem, you'll know. Coolent will come out the cap or into and out the overflow. I run mine in 100+ degree heat sometimes & it will spit some coolent out, you'll feel some loss of power around that time too.
