honda starter question

my friend needs a starter for a 250 (i think its a big red motor)
its shaft driven so its either a 85-87
are they compatible and where is the best place to buy one?

as soon as he calls me with the numbers off the motor i will look up what year it is

look on ebay. i believe the 250sx and red have the same starter. expect to spend big bucks though. see if his can be rebuilt by a starter/alternator shop first.

expect to pay 75-175 for a good used ebayer.

did they make one with a long shaft and one with a short

as soon as i get the numbers off the motor i'll know the exact year of the trike
then ill know what kind exactly the kind of starter to get.

sounds like used is the way to go
rebuilding is not an option he sent it off and the guy never sent it back.
