1983 185s Carb Question

In the Clymer ATC Repair Book the Float adjustment is 0.49 in. (12.5mm) and it says you measure the distance from the carburetor body to the float.
Where they say carburetor body do I measure from the gasket lip to the top of the black float or do I go beyond the lip to the bottom of the bowl?

Go from the flat surface of the carb ( where the gasket goes between the 2 carb sections ) and the underside of the float. the clymer manual shows a picture of the guy measuring it..
