I snapped the silencer bolt off, and then snapped an extractor bit trying to get it out. If I could get this out I'd be able to ride this bad boy. Any ideas? I've tried drilling all around it with no success.

if you have a welder, put a nut on there and fill it in. then you can put a wrench on it and the heat will usually break it loose.

yep, i had the same problem on the m. the header pipe bolt was exactly like you explained your problem...i welded a 7/16 nut on, and backed it out...just a word og caution though: use a larger size nut as it is easier, and if you forund it off you can still get a stripped bolt head/nut remover on there like craftsman makes

there is nothing to weld a nut onto. both snapped off pieces are recessed in :o

Word of advice to y'all, those extractors hardly ever work unless the bolt is loose in the hole. Usually not worth the risk of having them break, then you'll be SCREWED! What I would try to do, if there is any way you can jam a small screwdriver or chisel into the mangled remnants of your snapped off bolt, you might be able to get it turned out if you heat it red hot with and oxy-acetylene torch. It should loosen up then, if there's any way to turn it. Once thing's for sure, you're not gonna drill thru that extractor. Maybe you can grind away at it with a Dremel or something. Or, of course, you could tru the redneck method of welding the silencer to the frame!

If you have access to a mig welder, you can weld directly onto the broken stud, even if it is below surface, carefully build up the weld until it is above surface, then grab onto it with some vice grips.
I have done this plenty of times and it works, would do it for you but its a little far to travel, even by bus!!

Won't all that welding and heating damage the frame? I have been through this many, many, many, many, many, (ect) times. I get a real sharp drill bit, some good lubricant and start drilling it out. Bake sure you get you drill bit centered and use different size bits. Start small and work your way up. Then simply retap the hole and you are ready to ride.

Wow, it only took me one time breaking and extractor off to learn my lesson. lol never use them, and if you do, use a good quality set. and be real patient. and throw the spiral extractors away.

You broke extractor in there and cannot grab it with anything, you are pretty much ratf#@ed.
just put a good tack weld on that. if you have to remove later, just use a die grinder to grind off the weld. Up and riding in less than 5 minutes!

* new I should have worded that better. I meant I get a lot of broken bolts I have to deal with. not that I brake them. Because most of the frames I get are rusted up.

with small extractors you can sometimes use something with a sharp end, like an awl , but get something a little stronger and hit it with a hammer. put the point right in the center of the extractor and give it a couple wacks. this has worked in the past for me. ideally the extractor will sometimes break into pieces so you can easily get them out.

maybe worth a quick try before you start welding, Good luck

i have had some luck with using a punch. Hammer a pretty nice punch hole close to the edge of the bolt (not the center) and hammer it at an angle so it is moving connter clockwise. You may be able to use one of the holes you started to drill.
