Hey Yall,

1985 Yamaha YTM Tri Moto 200

well my 3 wheeler is dead, and has been dead for several months. It has a severe oil leak first off. Like a major hole in the side. But, now i think its losing compression. Its not like it used to be. The last time i rode it, it blew out smoke. it never used to do that before i stopped riding it.

what do you think needs to be done to it? Im thinking about just buying another engine to replace it. do you think it should be rebuilt? help!

thanks

It's possible that the head gasket is blown, or the valve seals are really bad, but most likely you need a new piston and rings. The cold weather has an effect on all of these parts. The cold weather is what made my head gaskets go in my car.

I should add that the combination of overheating, over-reving, and poor matinence helped the most to kill the gaskets, the cold weather put it over the edge.

The Tri Moto's really dont have all that much compression, its all in the valve springs. Take the top cam gaer cover off and see if you busted the timming chain, it happened to mine...
