i was hunting around a atv graveyard and i saw a set of 86 z forks, no triple tree or nothing, they have been outside for years it apears. no surface rust i could see. when i picked them up water came out of the fork boots.

My questions are this,

How can i tell if they are actually 86 forks? they look to be 86's because they have red faded boots, i know this doesnt garentee anything, thats why i want to make sure.

Are they worth picking up even though they may be trashed?

Are they able to be rebuilt? can you still get the internals?

if they are worth picking up, what is something like this worth?

I know you guys have way more experience with this type of stuff, any info would be great. thanks in advance

I' am knew to the Tri-Z scene also. If you have some calipers, the '86 forks measure around "38-"39 mm . I' am not sure about the '85.

Does the little nipple on the top of the forks stick out?

it had like a hex bolt type thing with the nipple recessed in it a little. its kinda hard to explain. does that help?

Tri-Z Racer, if there are no triple-clamps or anything but the forks, how do you know that they are even for a Tri-Z? If you can measure them, measure the outside diameter of the upper fork slider (the part that mounts in the triple-clamps) with a caliper. The 86 Tri-Z had 39mm forks.

well i am almost certain that they came off a tri z. i was just curious if there were anything easily recognizealble as differnt with them and the 85's, with the exception of measuring the fork diameter.
