Just picked up a big red 200es that runs but does not start with the starter only with pull starter. Here is where Im at with the trouble shooting. First battery is brand new. The neutral light will not go on at all. I have tested the wire that runs into the crank case and it has continuity when the gear is placed in neutral but still no light. WHen I jump the solenoid using a screw driver the engine will start. When I test for continuity between the wire that run out of the solenoid to the neutral swtich and to the starter button there seems to be some. I just can't figure out why the neutral ight won't light and why the starter button won't do any thing to the solenoid. Is there a way to test if the solenoid is good? Right now Im think it is the culprit but Im not sure.

Are you sure the bulb in the neutral light is good? There should be 2 red wires on the solenoid, a green woith red tracer and a yellow. If you put 12v to the yellow wire and it cranks the sloenoid is good. Be sure to check for a good ground also.
