i have a few problems going on with my 1984 200s. first off its very hard to start. it takes many pulls to start up and wont idle right. it wants to die when idling. then many more pulls later starts again. also i have to ride it with the choke open or it will bogg when i hit the gas. then i have to flip the choke to half or off when decellarating or the trike will die.after riding for a while the idle races up to high. i have took the carb apart and cleaned and blew out everything. the carb really didnt look to bad when i broke it down so im thinking there is another problem maybe. i tried adjusting the screws to factory specs and the 200 will idle when i turn up the screw on the side of the carb but the pilot screw on bottom has no effect when turned and is really loose so i have to turn in all the way in or it will rattle out probally. i also put in a new spark plug and checked the airbox for probs but everything looked ok there. it runs strong otherwise. any other suggestions?

have you checked for airleaks between the carb and cylinder >?

I'd second the airleak theory, but I need to know that first.

opps i meant with the choke flipped down. i did check for airleaks where the carb mounts and to the head before and it seemed fine maybe i should check again. the following is what happenned today: i test rode my trike today. after breaking the pull start rope twice i finally went to the hardware store and got a new rope. a whopping 45 cent purchase. so i put the starter back on and after 20 pulls i get it running. then after motor warms up i adjusted the side screw on the carb in an effort to get it to idle right. idle is rough with the headlight flickering now and it immediatly boggs when I hit the gas. (now bare with me since im no carb expert). if i flip the choke down the rpms race way way up at idle but it will run strong if you take off on a test run on the trike (unlike when the choke is all the way up its bogs bad). i noticed the little choke piece was rattling around some when idling (not the plastic thumb part of the choke put the actual little piece that it actuates on the carb at the end of the butterflys shaft). if i barely touch the lil choke piece or hold it steady the idle smoothes out more. i unhooked the airbox duct so that it gets plenty of air in the carb. there is no adjustments for the choke so do i need a another carburater or what gives?

Set idle with idle screw with choke lever down that is off position, you said on a test run it runs good this way but with lever up it bogs, Thats because you have choke on with lever up, You are mixed up on choke position.
