tranny problem 85 tm 200e

well just got this machine and it does not go in first or reverse anyone have any ideas what could cause this haven't torn into it yet

Maybe something to do with the reverse? Its a 85 200ERN right?

I second that - While I havn't worked on a whole lot of reverse equipped machines myself, I have heard that you can bend the no.1 shifter fork pretty easily from the "clunk" over time if you don't keep the reverse mechanisms adjusted properly (on the Hondas). Sounds to me like tear apart time.
