(trying to post a pic)
cant find server will try again later
i cant get this swing arm bolt out. i have every other bolt out of the trike
i have beat pretty hard on this thing and it hasnt moved.
i have already managed to damage the end of the threads.
chain tensioner nuts are all the way up as far as they can go
it seem like the one on the right side is almost certain to bind though
anyhow Thats not my problem.
my guess is this hasnt been out in the full 20 yrs.
what should i try next i dont really want to tear anything up?
as everything seems in good shape.
if i dont get some good advice, im gonna goto step 3
which is beat harder with a bigger sledge hammer.
as you can see the old gal is almost ready for step 4 which is
sandblasting.
help please
set the bike on its side, soak the bolt in a good pentrating oil, leave it overnight, then take a wodenblock put it on the end of thebolt and take a big ass hammer and smack it into next week....if that dont work take it to a shop that has a hydrolic press and have them press it out...

I feel your pain my friend. I had to change my swingarm bearings once and ran into this problem. the only thing your going to accomplish with a bigger hammer is a more flattened bolt. Believe me! I mushroomed the bolt so bad (even after soakin it for 3 days) that what I eventually ended up doing was gettin me a good recipricating saw and about 6 heavy duty blades and sawing through it on the inside of the frame and the swingarm on the head of the bolt side. It is a good idea to change the bearings anyway cause they're probably pulverized by now. Get ahold of dads on .org or on ebay...He sells the whole kit for like $40. I even got a swingarm bolt off him too. Sold seprately.

daaaamn chris whoooo i hope i dont end up going that route
man shoot...
yeah i already had the trike on its side (first time having to do that!)
im trying to get this picture posted here just 4 kicks!
im very inclined to the hydraulic press idea , that seems like a bit much but is actually the best advice im gonna get , hell they'll probably do it for free
or they better!
thanks man.
i'll let you know what happens!

Yea, I hope I never have to replace swingarm bearings again. It was probably the worst repair I've done on any trike. A real pain in the behind. Especially grinding out the old bearing races. Is that why your trying to get the bolt out?
That press suggestion would of came in handy when I was doing it. but, unfortunalty I had no idea about this website!!!

the reason im taking the swing arm out is the motor needs work
either stator or coils inside motor (wasnt gettin spark)
anyhow im overhaulin' it now completely
so i figured while the motor was out i would paint the frame and go back with everything new
yeah i will replace the bearings while im there didnt want to do that but your advice has pretty much made the decision for me.
thanks
and this is a 200x wrer talkin about
i still cant post a pick . after i try to upload it waits a minute and saya cannot find server wtf?

I used a cutting wheel on a mini-grinder and cut through the dust seal and race.Or get mad for a few more days then cut it.Pressing it out is harder than it sounds because of the way the frame has to be positioned to press it out.And machine shops usually don't work for free.

I've got the same problem with my 85' 200x. No spark. Let me know how you solved the problem. I'm gonna try pretty much replacing everything electrical.
For posting your pics...they have to be 300 pixels or smaller. I use the irfanview program to resize. Look in the Open Forum at the top near the stickies. It pretty much walks you through it.

If it's a 200x you don't have to remove the swing arm bolt to pull the motor. The only machine that you had to remove the swing arm bolt to pull the motor was the Honda 250r's. ;)

Every one of those Honda swingarm bolts I've had trouble with ends up getting cut out. 400EX, ATC250R, TRX250R. Impact gun won't work, Air hammer won't work, heating with a torch won't work bacause you don't get enough heat where you need it (the sleeve inside the swingarm). If you need to get it out, you're probably going to have to cut it.

With solid swinger on front, where would you cut it at? Get it pressed out. Have you tried heat yet? Heat will work. You need to get the bolt spinning first, then bang it. you may need to cut the mushroom part off, depending how bad that is. Your pivots bearings are definatly toast now. With engine out he should have no problem getting heat to it.

so far i have cut off about 1/4 of an inch (where it mushroomed)
with a die grinder. i'm a try to turn the bolt a little like jen said
then get mad and beat it out!
imagine i'll wind up cutting the head of the bolt off with a die grinder
thats gonna be tough because that damn chain tensioner is in the way
as long as i dont hit the frame it will be cool
im too scared to try putting any heat to it!!
aight ive managed to post a pic
had to crop it 17 times that thing started out at 2000k
now its 192k :D
by the way this picture will more than likely be irrelavent to me getting this bolt out but knock yourself out :beer
ill keep my progress posted

Oh man that pic brings back some baaaad memories. What I did was I cut it with the sawsaw inside the frame inbetween the swinger and the frame on the head of the bolt side. I forgot to mention this before but I had to cut the dust cap off first to give myself more room inbetween there so I didn't carve up the frame to much. But you could probably get away with shovin a large screwdriver in there to spread it apart a little. Take it slow and keep the blade lubed up real good with some wd-40 or something like that or you will burn up blades left and right.
