These are the photographs of 1985 YT 125 I saved from a scrap pile in Gorgia when I picked up our second Tri Zinger this past week. We bought the Zinger and the guy said he had another old Yamaha trike out back. He told me if I do not take it home he will throw it in the scrap trailer (which was sitting about five feet away). I know it looks rough, but this thing is in pretty good shape. I need an engine and a few minor details and I will have it going. :w00t:

Always makes you feel good to keep one from going to the scrape yard where it will almost certainly be crushed or melted down. I cant say that I would attempt to fix that one however, Maybe tear it down, clean up all the parts and keep them for another YT125......

I thought about that, but I do not have the heart to do so. Besdies I was activly searching for a YT 125. What I really wanted was a first production year model. But I have not been able to find out what year Yamaha started makeing them. So I guess I will have to settle for the last year instead.

What was the first production year? What year is the one that you have? Seems like I know where a YT125 is at, I'll check it out and maybe it will be the one that you are looking for. Also how can you tell the year on them, through the vin number like the hondas?

Mine is an 85. I know one thing about the early YT that sticks out is their round headlight. I think it is metal as well. I have never checked to see if you can find the yaer in the vin. I was told you can, but I do not know how. There is usually a decal up on the neck som,e where (if it has survived). I will have to get back to you on the vin though. Let me know what you find.

I saw about a good half or more of a Tri-z in a local guys scrap pile but it was crushed before I was able to inquire about it. That won't happen again that's for sure

i have 3 yt 125's for parts, 2 are 85 models and the other one is very old...not sure of the year, but it does not have a thumb throttle it has a trigger throttle that you pull, like a jet ski.

if you need anything let me know...i've got just about everything to make 2 bikes.

I would get that thing if the price was right. Free. Then, I would find an engine in a boneyard to stuff there--a really big engine. Hell, restore it to showroom condition since it needs everything.

I agree. It was free so why not spend some time on it. by the way, I would like an 85 engine for it. So one is available I might go with that one.

LonesomeTri-Z I made a stop over at a freinds house and located you a YT125. I dont know much on it yet other than it can be picked up fairly reasonable. The freinds house that I went to use to own it a couple of months ago, when he had it, it recived new brakes, and bearings all the way around (bearings anyway) Seem to run OK but the engine is a little "rattlely" as he put, not sure what he means by that. He's going to find out tommorow what the guy will take for it and then if you are interested I'll make a trip down to the guys house and get some pics of it for you. Oh, when I seen it a while back, it seems like it had a round headlight but I cant make any promises, I only seen it in the dark and I never paid much attention to it.

I had a (New at the time)1981 YTM125 back in the day. It was my first trike!!! It had the Jet-ski/snowmobile style throttle that went to the bar and not under it like a standard thumb throttle. I had a headlight with plastic shroud. The headlight pivoted for alignment within the shroud. My memory is rusty now, but I thought the 1980 was the 1st year of the 125.

Ebay link to a 125 motor. I know this is not the place for an ebay link, but a motor is being sought.

2 machines to save in this one with spare parts.

I would be willing to pick up and hold or prep for shipping. I am only around 27 miles from the last one.

You are correct. I have found some literature stating that 80 was the first year. Now I at least know what to llok for. The link below is what was confusing me on the yaer.

Yeah, that really through me off. I saw that deal for two YT's I was trying to figure out a way I could get them before I placed a bid. That is a deal I would love to jump all over. I would like to get a hold of a YT 175 next. Thanks for the heads up on the engine. I am going to track it and see what happens.

What year is it and what kind of condition is it in?

Lomax
03-15-2005, 06:49 PM
As far as year, I have no Idea what year it is, and the condition is well, ok a project for sure. The clutch side of the motor has been taken off and there is some stuff missing inside there along with the airbox and intake tube are gone as well. There may be a few other parts but other than that, I think its in fair shape, defenatly a good starter for somone looking. When you pull the recoil starter it still has good compression so there is not much doubt in my mind that it was running when whoever tore into the side of it. Here's a few pics

I have seen worse. It does look restorable. What are you looking to get out of it?

Lomax
03-15-2005, 07:02 PM
It really is in fairly good shape, Kinda why I never took a wrench to it (not that I really like parting them out but there are people out there that need the parts more than me). Tell you what, does 150 sound too far out of bounds??

Hey guys, just a freindly little reminder. Classified dealings should be made via PM if possible. :) Nothin personal. Hope the YT goes to a good home.

To shoot you straight, I can not tell form the photographs if I would pay that or not. :wondering It might be a very fair price that I would gladly pay. I know seeing it in person is kind of difficult right now, but I would like to try and work something out. :D
