I decided that I was going to go for a ride yesterday on the little 160, I get about a mile or so from the house and stopped because I noticed it was alot harder to drive than it should have been. I had punched a couple holes in my front tire! I looked around for some things to repair it with but by the time I had the leak near stopped it was just about completey flat. Well about 20 minutes and a ruined tire later I finally made it home. Whats some of your stories?

Everytime that happened to me it involved a nice walk home then coming back with a truck. 1 time we even got the truck stuck!

i was riding my 250sx at lake hugo a while back (in winter) and my front wheel bearing blew out about 12 miles in. i was with a group of about a dozen quads. roughly at the same time a 400 polaris diff broke and other components, so we limped back together to the trucks.my damage prompted me to install a 200x front end=$250 with new tire...the poo=$3000.00 plus to repair...."no kiddin"

I was out for the day and I stoped, went to start the bike again and the pull cord ripped right out. so I had to bum start it the rest of the time. then about an hour later my foot shift stripped so i had to use vicegrips to shift home. and that wasnt the end of it, I was riden a wheelie in a field and i set her down and a stick went up under my handelbars and broke a wire off the headlight. then the next day I busted the frame all to %@*%. BTW It was my 200m

Always made it home so far, had an oil from the CDI cover at one point, had to drive to a gas station for a quart to top off,, but it quit leaking by the time i got home... weird.

Other than that.. I rub her tank gently and tell her " It was a great day.. thanks for the ride " when i park her back in the garage ever time i go out..

A few years back, I smacked a largish rock hard with the right rear tire of my 350X. It didn't hurt the tire any, but it noodled the original gold wheel bad. A couple hours were spent on the trail putting it back into reasonable shape with the Caveman Crafstman tools that we could dig up (literally). Rocks of various shapes and sizes were used to massage it back to a point where it would hold air for 5 minutes. Once full, I had to race along, with a bent axle too, until it was flat, wait for thr dune buggy to show up, break out the compressor, refill, and begin the whole process over again....many times. Finally got it back to camp, didn't have a spare, but whatever, it was the last day....

Seems like most alot of us have tire problems more than anything. I knew that the tire I was rollin' was in bad shape but I just got the bike going so I was wanting to give it a few little runs to see what all it was going to need to be "fixed up" and nice again. I think that I about polished off the rings in the prossess of getting it home, it would smoke some when you realy got into the throttle before, after having to stay in the throttle for about a mile, yea, she wasnt real happy with me when we got to the house.

poped the right rear tire...flat about instantly...Thank god i was only 1/2 mile from my house, and rode it on the front wheel and rear left wheel only tilted all the way home.

Fun stuff

My worst break down was a Dumont Dunes in what is simply known as "The Big Bowl". For those of you that have never been there, the big bowl is a huge sand dune bowl about 1500 feet in diameter with 250 foot high, 45º walls. To ride the bowl you drop in from the top and haul ass, WOT, around the bowl in circles. The rush of riding the bowl is indescribable.

That particular day, Red Rider and I were riding our R's in the bowl and my chain came off, broke, jammed up against the case and then broke through the case. I came to a stop at the bottom of the bowl and looked at the puddle of oil from my bike that was quickly disappearing into the sand. Now keep in mind to get out of the bowl, you must ride in circles around it building up speed until you get to the top and over the edge. Because the sand is so soft, there's no way another 3 or 4 wheeler would be able to pull me out.

Lo and behold, along comes a guy in a beat up Toyota 4x4 pick up. He asks if I need help (with the reeking smell of alcohol on his breath) and then offers to take me out. We load up my bike and since his girlfriend and he are in the cab and we have no way to tie the bike down, I sit on the bike in the back of his truck. He proceeds to circle the bowl to gain speed and altitude with me hanging on for dear life until we make it out.

Needless to say, it scared the hell out of me as I though for sure my bike and I were going to fly out of the back of his truck or even worse, he was going to roll the truck and take us all out.

Lesson learned; Buy a case saver!

well i was about 3 miles from my house when myt stator on my 185 went out..keep in mind i have to push start it because my pullstarter is broke..i tried for about a 1/2 hour to push it..all it did was backfire till it finally quit...luckily there was a guy with a polaris sportsman 700 at his house where it had broke out (he was a farmer) and a really nice guy..i was on my way to a friends house that lives on the same road so i asked if he could tow me over there and i could call my bro to get me and the trike..well turns out his truck crapped out on him while i was riding that day..so he comes to get me in the ol beast ( 81 grand marquis) ..that thing has more oil leaks then i bet uve seen..at least 1 quart a day...anyway..it was getting cold..actually it was about 30 some degrees when he got there..i had to ride my 3 wheeler back to the house being towed by a land yacht!!! also keep in mind that that is when my brakes had gone out..so i bout hit the car on my trike!!! by the time we got home..i was about frozen stiff..all i had on when i started riding that day was a jacket and some street clothes..luckily he had gloves and a beenie with him so i put them on..but it was still cold!!

One time about 3 years ago i was out riding my suzuki 160 quad about 2 miles from the house and the front left axle broke. I had to drive it home, down a busy road while sitting on the one tire ( i sat it on the seat so i could carry it) and driving on the other 3 good tires. People were lookin at me like i was stupid. But hey i got it home!

Here's a good one:
A few years back some friends and I were riding up in Hazleton. We were about 20 miles away from camp, and my buddy blew the trans in his quadracer. Locked up tight, something broke in the countershaft and the wheels wouldn't turn. Wh had no tools or tow strap and a bad storm was rollin' in. One of the guys rode with me to find a tow strap while the others stayed behind to try and find a tool or something to get the chain off. I found an old junkyard where I was able to scrounge up part of a lifting sling to use as a tow strap. When we got back the skies were getting real dark and wind was blowin' like crazy. The other guys managed to find some hicks in a pickup truck and borrowed a chintzy azz screwdriver to pop the master link off. As I rigged his quadracer up to my old 300EX (man this is goin way back), and began to drag his hunk of scrap metal over some seriously rough terrain, it started to pour buckets, I mean some of the heaviest rain I have ever seen. Wind had to be blowing at 50+ mph! Just before we got to the part where we had crossed the interstate (yeah, we used to ride right across a 4 lane interstate hiway), it began to hail like crazy, stinging us with the force of a thousand killer bees. I could barely see if cars were coming. Leaned way over the bars and slipped out the clutch easy as I came up the embankment onto the hiway, ended up riding a wheelie clear across 81 with the quadracer in tow. A short time after we crossed the hiway, we found an abandoned garage, rode in and built a barrel fire to warm up. As we sat there, this dude walked into the garage out of mowhere. Turned out to be the crazy goat boy from East Coast ATV. He asked if we could help him get his trike to the garage because it had broken in half! I rode him up the trail to where the trike was (an atc125M), and sure enough motor mount bolts were gone and the frame snapped. I towed it back while he walked alongside it and held it together. Then came the strangest thing I have ever seen. This dude went ravaging thru a trash pile and pulled out some small wooden sticks and a length of wire, propped the trike back up, jammed the sticks thru the motor mount holes, wired it together, and rode off into the distance. Just thought I would share my little story with you guys. It was one of my most memorable riding trips.

Dammit!

Had a minor wipe out on the R a few months ago. Thought I broke something on impact but it turned out to be just a really deep bruise. In the process though the R fouled a plug. I always carry a spare plug (two actually) and this time was no exception. But, I was out there jetting that day and the wrench was sitting on the hood my truck. Had to push the damn thing back in the desert sun with no water. It wasn't all that far. Maybe a mile and half. But a mile and a half in the desert and in a good amount of pain is not very pleasant.

Nobody was around for miles either. Good thing I wasn't even further away from the truck or hurt more seriously.

I was riding on my 200X with my buddy on my ATC 110 on some logging trails in upper WI. We were having a pretty good day and rode out about 15 miles into the middle of land my friend swore was open to public use by the logging company. It had rained pretty good two days before and it was a real sandy area. We came across a large part of flooded road that looked shallow to me. I went low and my buddy went high......When I went low it was like falling into a lake....the bike went under. I pushed the trike out took the spark plug out of the engine, rung the crap out of the air filter, and let the bike drain on its end for a while. I kicked and kicked water out of the trike until no water came out. Needless to say I couldn't get her started. So we strapped her up to my ATC110 my buddy was riding and put it in low. We finally got back to the main rode where we encounter a sheriff and an angry land owner. We got tresspassing tickets and operating an ORV on a county highway tickets totaling $585. BE CARFUL WHEN CROSSING WATER AND NEVER TRESSPASS.

That is some F***** B.S. that the guy pressed charges. If it was my land I would have got your names and gave you a warning. I hate people that are dicks when it comes to stuff like that. Its not like you were hurting his land by riding on logging trails.

Afew yaers ago me and a friend were riding in wiskey creek mi he had aa 87 kawasaki bayou 300 quad I had my faithful suzuki ts 185 with a fresh set of rings any way we jumped in his truck went out there and took off we got goin and after awhile he stopped because he was dragging a big stick. but when he jumped back on it wouldn't start back up the starte wouldn't turn on so he said he would push it. after about ten feet he decided it wsan't happening. He asked if i could pull him, i said sure i'll try so we tied him to my two wheeler after about a half mile of a constant wheelie i sat right on the tank and told him to stomp it in gear, he said it wouldn't work because its a auto clutch but he did it and it roared to life so we unhooked and went some more. after awhile my coil mounts loosened up and my bike died he said he would go and find out where the trail went. So i sat there trying to get the coil fixed and i did so i set out to follow his tracks. after a mile or so my bike died but it wasn't the coil the plug wire cracked and was arcing to the frame. time to push atleast a bike pushes easy. after a while he found me again and as he stopped his quad died. Oh no i told him to give me some tools and i got my coil turned around so it didn't arc and i pull started him again. we headed back to the truck and went home. That ride sucked. it turns out the saftey switch crapped out and turned of power to the started because it thought it was in gear

crossed my mind more than once, last time I rode a good wheelie happens to be the very last time my 200s ran though, it "gave up" in the middle of a killer one so I am a little nervous of wheelies on motors that dont have alot of life left in them to begin with.

Went riding with a few friends... i was on the 200 ES, my friend had an M and my neighbot on the quad.

The M's chain was wayyyy to loose, he managed to get the chain to jump and wedge itself between the rear sproket and the frame, and it would NOT budge.

After a few hours of screwing around with it, we finally decided to just drag the thing to the nearest road and get it with the truck.. tied it to quad and he walked alongside it.

After a few hundred feet of dragging, he lifted the rear end and dropped it and miraculously the chain released..

another hour and we had it hooked up again and rode home veerrrrry slowly that chain was messed up royally !

Numerous occassions and machines have done me in....

1984 YZ80 - the needle jet clip fell out and I walked about 5 miles home.

1981 RM125 - master link came off, broke the motor and walked about 2 miles home.

250SX - Just had to paint the throttle, didn't I? Dam locking tab in the throttle let the nut come off so I lost the thumb to cable point. Had to yank on the cable to muster about 1/4 throttle for a few miles but I did get home that time.

1985 250R - fouled plug had me walk a few miles but at least it was lighter than the SX.

1994 CR250 - worst of all... Stuck throttle over a double jump caused the bike to launch about 200 ft away from me. Broken exhaust, subframe, fender, number plate, master cylinder, bent bars and me a broken tail bone. Rode it home and got stopped by the environmental police. He saw how bad I was and the bike and let me go...

On my very first real ride on the just-bought 185s it was broiling hot weather in mid-summer. I rode into the woods about five miles and came to a place where a skidder (a massive logging machine) had created ruts in the road that were about four feet deep and four feet wide and which had filled completely with water. There was only a few feet in between each rut but I figured the trike would fit down the middle of them. WRONG!
Flipped the trike into one of the ruts at one of the deepest places. I landed on my back with the 271 lb dry weight trike with assorted equipment strapped on the racks right on top of me. I thought i was gonna drown, but I heaved the machine off me using my legs. I was drenched in muck, my cell phone was wrecked and the machine was stuck in one of these massive ruts. After dragging it out of the hole I was exhausted, and I mean totally exhausted, and the trike would not start.
I started pushing it back towards the car in the blistering hot sun, a few feet at a time. Thank heavens I had a full cooler, at least.
When I came to the big dip in the road I knew I wouldn't have the strength to push it uphill on the other side of the dip, I was completely spent. So I pushed it with all my might down the downhill side of the dip, hopped on it, and kicked it into gear while praying with all my might.
The thing kicked into life and I made it back to my car and trailer.
The moral of the story: don't be an idiot while riding alone. I think that was the most exhausted I ever was in my life.

Ok, this embarrassing but I'll tell the story...........
- keep in mind I never owned a 3 wheeler before -
I had just bought the 84' 200es (now my wifes trike) and on the first ride I got about 1/2 from the truck and it just died.
I made sure the petcock was "on" and it had spark and everything. I cleaned the plug and put it back in.....nothing.
I pushed it all the way back to the truck and when I was pushing it up the loading ramp I noticed the gas cap was in the "off" position  .
I turned it to "on" and low and behold it started and ran fine.
So there's my "DUH" story.......tell me how tarded I am..

well one of my first real times taking a trike out through fields with my buddy, he was riding a yamaha 125 trike and I was on my ATC90 with Balloon tires. He never had a whole lot of experience with riding either so his had the yamalube system on it where the oil is in one tank and the gas in the other for auto mixing. Well he relied on that and while out riding about 1 mile from home his pump went bad and his motor locked up. So we used my 90 in low and towed him back and then I went out for another ride. So I am out cruising throught this field on the edge of the woods and then bam my back right tires goes completly flat, I snagged a broken branch which cut a hole in the side about 6 inchs long. So luckily a friend comes along on his yamaha 125 dirtbike and I send him for some help, so about a half hour later here comes my friend in a borrowed minivan for my trike so we loaded it up and headed out to get it patched.

A few weeks ago me and a group of friends decided to go riding well I always let my girl drive my 200s, cause it is super reliable and very good condition so the only thing that I had to ride was a newly aquired 200m which the only thing I had done to it since I got it was strip the tank down to fix and paint, so I hurried up and patch a couple leaks in the tank and cleaned the carb and said lets go well we started riding and where we were riding you have to drive up about a 35-40 degree incline and into the woods. So we are out playing having fun when first I start having problems downshifting so I am kinda putting since it wont let me shift right and my chain is really loose. Well I keep messing with the shifter when it slips and wont grab the shaft anymore, so I am like ok well I will drive back to my buddys garage and fix it so I start to head down the about 300 ft of 30 degree incline before the steep part and I realize I dont have brakes so I am like Sh**. Well I will just keep it in first and put down and if need be shut if off to slow me down well about 150 feet down my chain lets go and slings into the motor jamming itself but luckily doesnt brake anything. So here I am in the trees(used them to slow me down) Cant get the chain unjammed so I start rolling it down essentialy going side to side as much as I can to keep it from going to fast. Well I got it to the steep part with only flipping it once. Then comes the real fun So I begin my decent down the steep part and the hardest part is about half way down the trail makes a hard right cause there is a big tree right there so I am not even sure how but I managed to work it to that tree and then I got it around it and just coasted down the rest which was still pretty interesting cause I was moving off of that hill fast as hell and when I got to where it turned slightly onto black top it started waving all over to the point I thought I was going to flip. Moral of the story know your machine better before you hit the hills. In the end I said the hell with it and welded the shifter to the shaft and went out and had somemore fun.

My daughter did the gas cap one, took us awhile to figure out what that was. The 350 threw a chain, silicone is still holding after 3 years. The 70, that thing limped home everytime we took it out. My son is quite effective at towing and steering. Maybe I should have just left that one alone. The mini quad threw a belt, wow that was loud. Heard it over a revving R. Scared me to death because my other daughter was on it. My R loves to throw her silencer. But that is a easy fix. I carry a spare bolt and the wrench for it. I go through more of those then sparkplugs...

Yeah but, I have this sick hate for the stuff. Been in some nasty battles with it, and I have lost every time....

What I need to do is nut it and put a lock washer on. It is one of those things, that will get fixed when I remember.

Use the blue not the red..

I've never had problems reving a bolt put in with blue loc tite..

RED however.. forget about it.

Have you ever tried punching the threads behind the bold ? it mucks up the threads just enoug that it usually does not rattle out.. but it's not enough that you can still back it out if ned be !

i was rideing my blaster with a couple friends down the road (400ex, rm125, yfz 450) so i was having a little trouble keeping up..im running this little blaster as hard as i can wide open down the road for a good 10 minutes straight and all the sudden i hear this big POOM then i hear my motor windeing down and im thinking...great...there goes my top end. but then i look down at the motor and see my spark plug bouncing around still attatched to the boot...so needless to say...my head was stripped out...so i threw some lock tight (red hehe) on the plug and put her back in the motor later that day that was a long walk back too...since all there machines were so much faster they just left me and didnt see i was gone...about 20 minutes later i see a yfz flying at me and he just laughs.....so a week later i sold the motor for my 200x. fair trade i believe.

was rideing the 200x through some trails and the trail went into a dirt road for about a mile...so were going down the road and we come up to a giant spot of water that was frozen over so theres this big patch of ice that covers the entire road for probobly 60 feet...and we are already going pretty fast and i didnt see anyone back down to the ice so we all just barreled twords it...we are going single file theres a yfz in front of me and a 400ex behind me...the yfz hits it and is going alright and im maybe 5 feet behind him when suddenly there is a giant splash of water and i c that the yfz has broken through and there are 2 ruts from his tires going throught the ice...and my tires are sucked into them...but my front tire is also sucked into one.. so im completely sideways, going as fast as this little x will go. and i cant see anything because water is probobly 10 feet in the air being roosted everywhere from the yfz...and im battleing this x. it goes up into 2 wheels and i muscle her back down and get her to stop... i look behind me and c that the 400 is right the edge of the ice and never even tried...and the yfz is at the other side sitting on the nice dirt road. and im stuck in the middle of this giant frozen puddle. and its about a foot and a half deep. and to make things better my chain fell off and was tangled up on the front sprocket...and what makes it even better is im soaked with water from head to toe and its probobly 20 degrees outside.. and were a good 10 miles from the cabin... so i make the yfz pull me back ** i freeze to death...that was a rough trail ride...

I remember towing Jenn's 350X back to camp that day.

Only time I can remember limping home myself was at St Anthony. I had a paddle go flat 5 miles or so from camp on the way back from the big dunes. I rode the rest of the way back sitting over on the fender over the tire that held air. It was our last day there so I just put my knobbies back on.

I broke a clutch cable on my XL500R about 2 weeks ago and I had to drive about 20 miles with no clutch and I had to go through a town to make it. I timed all the stop lights and got through them without having to stop. Well the last light got me. I pulled into the bank and did circles in the parking lot until the light turned green! I was starting to get dizzy! I made it home no problem, left it in 4th the whole way.

I was riding my friends 86 250 fourtrax, he was riding his dirtbike, and his cousin had his aunts restored 200m. It was a hot ass day in up state ny york, 90+. we were racing down these old lane ways for the local tractors. We were coming up to this mud hole i never saw, first the dirt bike hit it, then me, then the kid with the 200m. As soon the 200m hit it died and we couldn't get it running. Well the 250 fourtrax had a homemade push bar and we started pushing it home. We were a 3 miles from civilization, Then both bearings went out in the front at the same time on the fourtrax. It took us an hour to get home. Had one hella of sun burn.

Heres a good one. I never rode but but totaled it.

Back in 1999 a buddy and I where driving to a spot to ride. He was going to blow a stop sign on a back road, and didnt see a truck coming from the right. To make a long story short, my buddy slammed on the brakes going 55 mph, on the trailer we where pulling was a 97 banshee and my brand new 99 400ex. The straps broke holding them, the banshee shot over us into ditch, my ex when into the back window of his Ford Explore then got jammed between the truck and trailer and dragged along. The banshee had 1500.00 in damage, my ex was totaled. I did have insurance, thank god. The bad part is, I had waited 6 months for this ex from the dealer. It was the first year they made(square tube frame). Had to wait another 6 months to get another. Needless to say I had some choice words with my buddy and never let him drive with my quad on back again. Maybe it was a sign, I should have never bought a toy with 4 wheels.
