..........like to get them too muddy. I also noticed that none put clear 3mm vinyl over the wear areas so if you do ride in the mud it is uneffected what so ever. I don't think I saw a one so far that did this.

You wouldn't be so afraid to get them muddy then.

Seems to me your missing out on a lot of fun .........ya woozies. :D

Trikes are meant to be ridden.... it's called a hose and a bucket of soapy water, just wash them up after you ride!

Well none of my trikes are "mint" so to speak. They are all in nice shape but far from mint other than my 85 red. My bro works at a sign shop and I asked him about that material, he said he has it and could hook me up with a roll of it. So I might try it out in some areas to see if it works good.

I dont enjoy rooting around in mud like a pig. I do enjoy quick sweeping trails and a few bumps and downed trees thrown in. If I see a mud hole, I try to avoid it. I could never understand the appeal of mudding. I might enjoy some slow swamp crawling on a 4 x 4 quad, but other than that, naahhh.

Trikeaholic and I are on the same page with regards to mud.

I'm a trail and sand guy.

Mud is fun in a prepped, monster, 4X4 quad but a trike? Nah.

Mine gets HAND washed everytime I ride.

I got in some nasty mud about a month ago by accident (only way out of the trail I was on) and it took me an HOUR to get 'er clean again.

I DO enjoy WATCHING folks ride in the mud. :p

i like mud just to see what my sx is capable of. i have gone through mud and water that no 2 wd quad could get through. i am guessing it is because of my dirt claws vs. their stock tires but it is still nice to see the look on someones face riding a 4500 dollar quad (and up) when a 400 dollar 3 wheeler from the 80's goes putting on by.:)
washing up afterwards does sucks though. especially between the engine and the skid plate.

My back yard/riding aerea is almost all swamp and muddy trails, so i never bother to spik and span my trikes, but i make a habbit of pressure washing them as soon as i get home to get the big stuff off ( the hose just does not cut it ) then bucket of water and dish soap <-- cheap and works well !! . rub down the major part of it, and pressure rinse it and park.

I love getting dirty, i just don't like the thought of murdering my rear end bearings.

You can't just turn around at the first sight of a big hole.. would make for short trips around my place !!!!!

I love going rooting through the mud and spraying it around everywhere, then burying myslef into it and roosting on out. I just wait till it rains, put on an old slicker, go and ride in the mud and rain, then take off the dirty slicker, then let the rain wash the trike, then after it stops I go and get the rest of the mud off.

I also like to get the power to the ground and really feel the trike perform. In mud traction is always slipping and you never really get to feel the trike in same what that you do where there is high traction.

Mud is just not my thing. I like to ride fast and feel accelerataion. If I had a big 4x4 quad then perhaps mudding would be the thing for me.
My 2 strokes were not made for mud...they were made for speed and open desert air! Well at least Central Texas (not desert!).

If you like mudding then more power to you!!!! Its all good and fun...just answering the question!

Darius1502
03-09-2005, 12:53 PM
One more thing: the reason you see so many mint triikes on the West Coast and Arizona is because its dry and people ride them in the desert not in mud. Like it or not mud ages the trike fast...maybe not the first time or second time...but give me 2 mint trikes and you go ride in the mud 10 times this year and I'll go to the dunes. Meet me in 10 months...

Wash both of them and clean them....whose will look newer?

If trikes were still made today I would ride in mud sometimes....but to me I am thinking preservation and FUN when it comes to my trikes...

...I want both...and dry riding allows that for me....thats all.

bigredhead
03-09-2005, 01:02 PM
Yeah i agree.

Mud in essense is liquid sand paper, can't help but wear everything down. Not alot of desert in west coast canada. So the options are limited..

I know that once i get my SX all spiffed up i'm not gonna want to beat on it, so i'll get a quad for that.

unfortunately up here where i live if you don't like mud ...well don't get to ride.if i lived in the southern part of the states i too would avoid mud like why would you drive through mud if you have a desert to play in. and yes mudding takes a huge toll on the trike. brakes get all full of swamp water especially drums. if you want brakes the next day you have to drop the tires and wash them out and it gets in every thing like carbs under your seat between the plastic,in your ignition,on off swithch, brake cables...it is a pain in the butt and requires alot of maintenace.this year i am going to use the beater 185s when ever i go muddin and keep the 250sx for trail ridin.

Sure I would. I keep my motoxer just as clean and don't fear the mud what so ever. I love rain (a nice drizzle) and mud all in the same batch of riding. My bikes clean up perfect and I do admit I HATE that part of it but it must be done. Seems so sissy to go around a mud hole or deeper areas........that's how you really learn to ride in mud.

I have my bike prepped right for mud. You could never tell that the thing was in the mud after I get done cleaning it. The 3MM clear can be taken off in years and that part will look brand new yet.

Prepp your bike up the right way to ride in mud and you won't be so hesitant to take it out in it.

You guys that don't like it.........Are you saying if you went on a planned 3WW ride and they called for wet conditions you'd back off because you don't want to get your trike dirty? Bunch of sissies I say :D

Sure. http://mxsouth.com/factoryeffex/fac163univer.htm

It's $15 for 3 heavy duty sheets. Comes in a bunch of colors + clear.

I bought red & black and made an exact copy (except for color) of the schroud graphics on my motox bike. Then put the clear on. Made my own lettering too. 5 years from now the graphics will still look like new. if I had not put the clear on they would have been worn already some what. Clear is NOT on in this picture though.

You mud guys, I'd love to see you even TRY to have fun at haspin after a rain shower. HA, all those that were at TF 03 will confirm that it is NOT fun in any way. That stuff is like concrete once it dries. Its soo heavy and sticky, that it fills up your tires so you cant move or steer. I remember Kimmers brothers 250SX fenders were so weighted down that they never recovered their proper shape. Yea, thats fun stuff. I ride my 350X in the woods, and sure it gets dirty, goes through puddles, but I certainly prefer drier conditions. My view of "mudding" is like rainy Haspin riding, and it sucks! Im sure everyone that has experienced THAT would agree 100%. and unless you have experienced 700 acres of complete wet concrete, you have not been mudding at all, just splashing through puddles like my 5 year old kid does. I hope some of the people making the comments about "testosterone" and other rediculous remarks come to TF 05 and TRY and I mean TRY to go through some of the mud holes. I will make sure Kimmer is there with his thingamabobber to winch you out!

Call me a sissy if you like but I probably would cancel if the only trike I had to ride was the one I have now and it was going to be a complete mud fest. It's setup for dry riding and it's staying that way. I don't anticipate my R will be my only bike for long though. :p

I used to mud all the time back in Ohio. It's fun but not worth it to me as far as my current R is concerned. I'll get a beater bike down the road for that sort of thing. This one will never see a mudhole again if I can help it. As Darius already pointed out, there's a reason why southwest trikes last so long and look so good. I'm still in the process of getting all the Ohio out of this thing. They might LOOK great when you clean them but unless you're tearing them down after every ride, it's getting into places and doing bad things. Not riding during a rare rain (out here) is a small price to pay to avoid that.

Avoiding mud is typically a non-issue out here anyway. It's rained more this season than it has the past 5 years combined but this is very abnormal. Most of the time you'd have to try pretty hard to find any in the first place.

Ride in the mud? Heck, I race in the muck at times.
But I still prefer to keep dry. When I go out, it is typically for 12-18 hours at a time. It's no fun having wet underwear for that long and the temperatures don't get that warm up here. I live near Bigredhead, and as he says, if you don't want mud, then you can't ride around here. It is EVERYWHERE and you cannot avoid it.
So I don't mind it. But I will avoid it when I can, which is rarely. I don't like being wet (don't mind dirty but being wet and cold makes for a less than ideal ride) but since there's no avoiding it in this area I just put 'er in 2nd and give 'er.

There could a correlation here:

Nice Trikes --------> No Mud

But really I just think its easier to keep them looking new when you stay out of the mud. All the mudding trikes I have seen are 'nice' in my opinion.

More of the non-mudding trikes look mint or semi mint.
