Can you swap an 86 swinger onto an 85 250r. And what parts do you need to do so? just the swingarm, axel carrier, and brake setup, or is the axel a different size and the linkage diffferent?

You can swap them. If you use an 86 swingarm on an 85 you will have to use the 86 carrier and the caliper mount bracket.

I'm not clear on the axle though. whether an 85 axle will work in an 86 carrier????

that should fit i'd think look @ it closely axel should be the same size/length. it seems your question is obvious. cuz some 85 were made in 86 and vice versa they didnt change much.

I know the 350X 85 and 86 axles interchange. Similar changes were made to the 250R's so I'd assume the axle would exchange also.

if you CAN'T answer the question RIGHT why throw some half witted answer???????

the axles are the same,, its the sprokcet position thats different, you will have to measure from the seal surface to the sprocket center to see if they are the same ,, i don't have an 85 out so i can't measure for you,,, but i am running a 88 axle in a 85 carrier on one of my trikes,,, with no modifications
