I am starting on this, and want to explore a few things, before I decide what to do.

A couple of issues I want to address, The kicker starter. Frankly, I want to beef this area up. Is there a better spring? Where is it? Better kicker gears? Next I want to incorporate decompresion into this engine. Lets discuss those options. I was thinking off the handle bars, push button style.

Performance, I was thinking powroll's crank. Mid cam, then possible piston options. Not sure which one here yet, I have not decided. I have heard that one person has incorporated the 6th gear in this, would love to hear about that. And exactly if anything it added. (200xbasket hint hint).

Lets stick to these, If any of you have anything related to this, I would like to hear about it. I really do not want to discuss suspension yet, I will fix that when I need to. I am mostly after bottom end info right now but realize you need to adjust each to accomadate topend or each other. (sorry realize weird way to say this). I am not looking for cheap fixes here. I am looking for the best. Doesnt matter if its cheap or expensive. I will be useing Powroll as my primary performance unless, someone can prove a better option. Prove is a good key word here.

I have at my disposal right now an xr and 2 200x engines. Have to double check year on xr.

I know this question will come up, "What do you want to achieve?" The fastest, quickest, most reliable 200x. Without sacrifycing the lowend. A good overall beef, does this make sense.

Hey Jenn! I know, with certainty, whats best for you...

... sell off the 200X stuff and put the money into that 85 KXT! It's already fast! :beer

Just kidding! :p Couldn't resist a little friendly ribbing because of your sig. Wish I could offer some advice, but I know precisely nothing about the 200X, hell, i've never even ridden one. Good luck with it! Sounds like a great project. :D :beer

Next I want to incorporate decompresion into this engine. Lets discuss those options. I was thinking off the handle bars, push button style. It should already have an automatic decomp system. As far as performance Sounds like you already have a good list to get you started, On the exhaust side of things DG makes there Xccelerator system for that year (lucky you poor me 86 model) and that would be a nice addition to help out as well. I have no idea about the sixth gear thing unless the XR motor has sixth and then you could that engine to achieve it. What color scheme are you thinking of for it?

The 200X can use a decompression setup form any 200cc Honda three wheeler. The sixth gear from what I remember was a xr200 dirtbike setup. As for the rest it skounds like you are on your way to good performance upgrades.

The sixth gear can come out of an 86 or 87. We had a thread in 3wh.org. And a guy just took the gears from a 86 and put them in the cases like you would the 5 gears and they fit just fine.

I am not interested in shipping a tecate sorry. They aint worth that much.

To clarify you have to if it indeed does work use xr gears not 86 200x.

Lomax I have an 86 200x, its her fault that this started.

I have just fixed a 85 200x with a Kickstarter slipage issue ( dizasterzrfun69's machine ). I am sure he will be picking it up soon and will give a full report on how this "Kit" works. I was very impressed with it!!

Seems like we're working on very similar engine projects. You can bet I'll be watching this thread.
I wouldn't settle for anything less then powroll, there reputation speaks for itself especially when talking about the xr200 and 200x engines. If money isn't a issue It's the only way to go, especially if you want to go extreme. The problem I'm having is whenever I get up the cash the damn gun show comes to town, and I come home broke. One to many hobbies I guess.

I split my cases today on the 200x to try and solve this kickstarter problem. I did not find any broken teeth, springs or gears. Are the gaers the ones that are after the return spring, then there is the other big gear, and then there are the two gears that mesh together that go in like a "z" kind of pattern. The last ones I mentioned the ones that are doing the slipping, correct?

Howdy, how did you go about fixing this problem? Once I get some input on how to fix this I am going to hopefully get it done in the next 2 weeks.

have u pulled the kick starter shaft out of the right case? there should be a bolt going into the right case holding the shaft in take that bold out (14mm i think) then the whole kicker assy. should pull out. and the gears are the ones on the out side of the right case cover. there is a little cover you take off before u take off the whole case cover. its on the bottom left side of the case. there are 2 gears in there and soem washers i think.

While you have it apart, replace the entire kicker-gear assembly. You can ask howdy about getting one and what exactly it consists of. I got my 200x back from him late saturday night and it works like brand new. With all the hassle and frustration you would go through it will definately be worth purchasing the "kit" from howdy. I'm most definately not trying to bad-talk howdy one bit, he did a great job, but he had my engine off of the machine with the cases split a total of 6 times. He is very very sharp on this stuff and he couldnt even figure it out!! Finally, we decided for him to put a brand new assembly in it and so he did. Ask howdy if you dont believe me, purchasing the kit is DEFINATLY worth it!! Well i wish you the best of luck.

I fixed Kevin's by installing a kickstarter kit. Honda come up with these kits after having numerous kickstarter slippage problems. I just happened upon the Kit info a few years ago. It wasn't until Kevin's 85 200x that I tried one. I was VERI impressed with the results. You can kickstart his now while in gear and no slippage.

how much was this kit?

That depends on what year your 200x is. The price varies on the different years ( 83-85 ) of the 200x. I haven't tried ordering the 83 or 84 kits yet, but I do know they had a limited supply of the 85 kits available. I am waiting on the rest of the 85 kits to be delivered. ;)

Please NO MORE PM's or emails requesting a kit. I was buying them for our shop. With over 25 people wanting them and only a couple kits available, I may just Ebay them and be done with it. But until they get here I can't do ANYTHING. When the remainder of the kits get here I will decide then on what I am going to do. If I end up selling them I will post in the Classifieds.
Thanks

There was only a couple still left. So I ordered all of them. I'm not giving out the part number until I get all the parts / kits I ordered in. This includes the extra kits I ordered ( those are on backorder ).

I was going to PM you ,but answering here might avoid alot more of them.

Do you know if any such thing is available for the SX . or are they the same kits as the X's ?

Didn't know sx's had this issue? dont they have electric start? seems to me a battery would be easier and cheaper.

They don't have a "Kit" to fix these that I know of. But we have talked about how to fix this problem a lot of times here on the forums.

I'v herd you can put the top end of the 200x on a 6 speed xr bottom end. that might be somehthing to look into. I think i saw one on ebay set up that way, or just the bottom end that was used for that setup before.

I very close to the solution on the kicker gears. I have found the matches. The question I have now is exactly what do I need to change out in my xr engine to make it a forward kick, but useing as many of the original kicker stuff from the xr as possible. Thanx Jen
