We just rebuilt the motor and installed new valves. When trying to start it it would back fire often and then we got it to fire once and it only ran for 2seconds. So my buddy wanted to try pop starting it we did that it started but wasnt running real good but ran for about 10 minutes. Then it stalled and we havent been able to start it since but when trying its backfiring like crazy.. Any suggestions? Could it be the timing but its weird that it did run for a couple minutes? Also there was gas running back into the airbox at one point then that stopped. ANy help would be great thanks Tony

I would say your valve timing is off, backfiring and gas getting blown into the air box. You are probably out one cog on timing chain.

well i aint the sharpest tool in the shed but it sounds to me like your timing is off. and as for the fuel, i'm not sure, probablly just an adjustment.

I just had the carb rebuilt and the tank cleaned and fuel lines replaced. But I am still having problems starting it. I think it may be flooding out. We can push start it okay. What method seems to work the best to start them? Both warm and cold?

Sounds like the ignition timing to me. Did you set it with the "F" mark or the "T" mark? "T" is for valve timing "F" is for ignition timing. Set these correct and then go from there. Flooding into the airbox sounds like a float level problem or caused by backfire.
If it is tuned right it should be startable by the kicker effortlessly. For example, I have the swing arm out of my trike at the moment (made from a bike with an atc200s motor in it) and it is on its front wheel with a box under the engine to support the back. I was walking past it and decided to start it. I dont have the decompression cable connected and it has HEAPS of compression so when you pull it the frame wants to lift off the ground. I pulled the cord slowly until it was hard up against the compression and then let the cord go back in. I then took up the tension and then pulled it over with very little force otherwise it will fall over. All of a sudden it running! not choke at all, just idling away. It hasnt been started for 2 months.
When its tuned right you should be able to do that.
