Was at the dunes last weekend. bike was running fine till i let my buddy take a spin on it..To make a long story short i got it back to camp opened it up and this is what i found..Not to sure what caused it..As you can see there is a huge indent on top and the top ring is melted lol..

I might be wrong but I was under the impression the the wear on the top of the piston was caused by detonation. The scaring I thought was caused by heat. I might be wrong so anyone that does know correct me if I am...

Thats what a melted piston from a lean condition looks like.

I was also wondering if anybody could tell if this head gasket was stock off a 85 R?

Sorry to hear that Fox. How about a little humor to brighten your day? If there's a dent in the top of the piston, I bet the intake or exhaust valve hit it.

Also, it's hard to tell from the pics, but it appears to be a paper gasket with a metal squish band, so I would say that is a stock 250R gasket.

Always gotta check it man. That's the thing about when they're running lean. They run great... until they stop running completely.
