You exchange the old cam for a core charge ($60 in this case) when you buy a new one. Parts places di it on certain Items. Usually on Starters, engines, batteries, alt. ect.ect.
They take the old item and rebuild it and sell it again as a rebuilt unit in the case of say a starter. In the cams case they must weld them up and refrind them again? I wasn't aware of the fact they "rebuilt" cams.

When I burnt my 350X cam up at Trikefest, the "banned and nameless" took a new stock cam out of a crate motor and swapped them out. Figured since he's going to use the crate motor to build up a high performance motor, he'd send in my shot cam for the core instead of a new OEM one! :naughty:
