Why are the right radiator shrouds worth more than the left ones??

They (the right handers) haven't been available from Kawasaki for several years. Kawasaki sold out of them first.

The Tecate guys would know more about this than me, but from what I understand, one of the shrouds is discontinued. If you say the right radiator shroud is worth more, then that must be the one that's discontinued. It's all about supply & demand.

So does Kaw. still make the left ones????(I doubt it, but??) Also how long ago did they stop making them??? What about maier, They don't make either one? Do they??

As far as I know the left one is still available along with the front and rear fender. But that's it.

Maier hasn't made the KXT shrouds in years either.

I know the question wasn't asked about why the right side shrouds were sold out first, but here's my theory. You Kawi guys are going to blast me on this but oh well.

In the 80's when everyone was flat track racing, the races were run counterclockwise most of the time. When the guys were sliding sideways in the turns, this exposed the right side shroud to the roost of the Honda 250R's which were always out front and across the finish line first. DOH! :D

That is an interesting theory and could be, but....... in 86-87 kinda doubt it!! LOL :beer Anyone else have a theory or what really happened???

I believe that the Tecate was so fast that Some suckers couldnt handle the Power and Speed and Usually would start to spin out then all those suckers on 250 r's would crash into the tecate's and make em all roll onto the Right Side because the 250 r's were allways eating the Tecate's Roost. This happened on the Flat Track and Ice Races for Years. :w00t:

Tecate's shrouds do stick out too far, that much is certain. Years of stress on them from wind resistance from going fastest all the time takes its toll! :beer

I heard in the past that Kawasaki made more of the left handers for some reason or another. Don't know how true that is.

Mr. Sandman, that was funny, I got a good laugh. A powervalved Tecate is nothing to mess with though.

I love Mr. Sandman's theory too. It is sweet.

Red Rider, how does your power valved R stack up to the Tecate? Awesome trike you have there man. I bet it is more usable. Nice wide spread of power I bet, like my old 89 CR250R.

Thanks Apollo, I just wish I could run across a Tecate to compare it to. I never see any when I go to Dumont Dunes, and that's about the only place I ride any more. I'm almost positive it's faster & more powerful than the original cylinder, which was ported, but it was such a long transition period from switching to the CR cylinder to when I finally automated the powervalves & got the system dialed in, that I just don't know anymore. The only thing I have to go by is my "seat of the pants" impression. My riding partners' bikes were steadily evolving also, so I've really got no baseline to judge it with, except for the smile on my face of course. :D :D :D :D

Pretty sound theory there Sandman. Here's my thought on the subject: Kawasaki soon realized that their ignition system was defective, so they made a ton of left side shrouds, knowing they would get worn out quicker as owners had to remove them more frequently to troubleshoot. :naughty:

To be serious, I think it's mostly due to heat. The exhaust runs right under the right side shroud and the hot/cold/hot/cold weakens the plastic making it more susceptible to breakage.

BTW, back in the day, my 86 T3 didn't see much in the way of roosts. They were all behind me, you see.
