View Full Version : AIR FILTER TROUBLES...

Hey guys,
I order a K&N air filter for my Big Red a few weeks ago from Dinnis kirk. Well when I got it and tried to install it, it wouldn't fit at all and I tried and tried to put it on. Finaly after a while I got it attached but it just didn't seem to fit and kept comming off. I sent it to the shop (for other reasons) to get fixed and asked them what they thought about the whole air filter thing. The guy called back today and told me it was ready but that it was the wrong air filter. I started to think I must have order the wrong one or something. So I traced my order that I placed online and looked at the part number for the filter I had, It matched up with the same part number listed for the 84' 200ES Big Red. What in the world??? They've got it all wrong...WHAT is the right filter? I'm going to send it back, but I still need a new filter, what do I do?

Hey guys,
I just got an idea. I'm going to see if I can just cut off the adapter cap thing to my old stock air filter and then attach it to the k&n filter. It should work, I'll see what I can do, I could just SUPER glue the adapter to the front part of the filter, lol. I'll tell you if anything changes in this whole thing. I just want to try and avoid sending it back and stuff, this Idea seems like it would really work.

Hers a pic of the stock filter, I'll show you where I would cut the adapter off and all...It sounds wierd, and may not look like it would work, but I know there is a nice, clean way to make it fit together :D .

Tweeked,that filter doesn't look that bad, I'd just clean it in gas, blow dry w/compressor and reinstall. Parts are costly enough, w/o changing what doesn't need changed. "CRAZY GLUE"??? LOL!!! (don't know how well that'll hold up through heat,cold and jarring) Good luck!

I just went through a similar situation with online ordering. The part listed and described on the site and the part they sent were different. I got the cold shoulder from the service rep on the phone so I followed up with a respectful complaint and believe it or not they admitted their mistake and followed up by paying the return shipping and sending me the correct part (although I havent gotten it I do know it has been shipped). I would try the customer service department for the company first and if they arent willing to own up to their mistake then go above their head but do so in an urgent but respectful tone and you'll probably get favorable results. My 2 cents. Good luck.

The hell with rigging anything up, just have them get you the right one.
