I am ready to put some tires on my 185s and I need some input. I need a tire that is good in a variety of mud.
I did a search and found a few that look good but I know looks aren't everything.
These are the ones I found in my price range (under 60 bucks ea.) and right size (22/11/8 to 22/12.5/8)

GBC Gators
GBC Dirt Devils
ITP Mud Lite
Kenda Bear Claw
Super Swampers

oh ya know what surprisingly work well in mud and snow? Knobbys. I'm totally serious. But gators would look sweet on a little trike .

I have Bear Claws on my SX and they are awesome....Someone told me after I bought them however that in a test of 22" mud tires, the mud machines won hands down. The Mud Machine has a tread pattern very simular to the Bear Claw, except where the Claw has the triangle shaped knobby in the center of the tread, the Mud Machined doesnt. Either tire will be great.

PS....I have never got stuck with my CLAWS, drowned maybe, but not stuck and I am in Southern Louisiana!!!!

On a little 185 you really have to watch you don't get too heavy a tire & one that will bite too much.

Here is a ITP mud lite that is very aggresive yet lite in weight. It is one of the lighteset supposedly for that type of tire. Your 185 will not spin or slide near as easy as with a less aggressive one though. Seems like you would get a rougher ride then with the bottom selection.

I have never used either selection but these seem a bit more of a match for your trike and are cheap too!
Ample traction (with the cross tread) yet will leave the trike break the rear wheel loose for turning (with the side knobs). That's the way it looks like it would react to me anyway.

Remember, you have no rear suspension and the tires ARE your suspension so keep a little flex in mind when choosing a tire, unless of course you don't give a rats trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro about that.

The knobbys and mud busters are a no-go. I have both. My 185 has the Strykers (mud buster) and the 200 has knobbys. Both pack with mud and become slick too easy in the soft clay mud here.

The mud lite is looking a little more appealing with the low weight.

I'd really be curious how lite they are verses other tires of the same size. They say the lightest but don't include the weight.

bear claw tires are wicked for mud, but there like 200$(CND) a tire...as for knobbies, you have to have about 250 lb rider on a 200/185s to get thro deep stuff...like 3-4ft drifts....i dunno what you have for snow down there wheeliepop, but your trike must be hela ass end heavy lol

I would have to agree...i run old school knobbies ( 22 x 11 x 8.s) on my 125M and they work surprisingly well!!!   :D I only paid $31 for them brand new last year....they are Carliles ( ) (wow,,, i bet i spelled that wrong!!)

It has a heavy ass end when I sit on it. 357 dry weight for the trike plus 240 lb. rider = a heavy ass end. As long as I have my SXs in atleast 2nd gear there is no stopping those knobbies. We have like 2 foot drifts when we have snow.

ahh that would explain it wheelipop...cuze with my knobbies with me just by myself (135llbs) it dosnt work too good, i have to do ALOT of hoppin around...theases are 25x12x9's to, i still find the BEST trike for mud is the ATC 90 with the big ol dam knobbies on it tho you had to drop the air pressure down to about half a pound and you would just float over that stuff.....man i should really get my atc 90 back....heh

I got my Bear Claws for $115 a pair including the tax....that's less than $60 a tire, which was Cajun66's budget. Also, Cajun, I would go for the Mud Machines. They are lighter than the Bear Claws and like I said before, the tread pattern is very similar to the Claws. I've been told they root like the claws, and I'm telling you that you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED !!!

Out of the ones listed the Mud-lites and the Dirt Devils will have a shallower tread depth, 5/8" I think. You have to go up to 25 and 26" to get the deeper treads on these. I have known people who love their Super Swampers, I run Vampires on the back of my Big Red and they are a great tire. The Gators have a deep tread, a friend of mine has a set on his quad and they work well. I can't say on the Bear Claws, I haven't seen any in action. Everything I have read say they are a good all around tire.

I run 589's on a 450 foreman but it's always a trade-off with ride quality so ask your self how deep are you willing to go cause all these farm tires are only as good as your axle is clear...I think my Big Red's clear about 5.5in. and that ain't much.

A friend works at All-Pro cycles in Baker La. and let me do a "hands on" comparison between most of the tires I was looking at. I had him order me 2 Mud Lites. If I'm not satisfied with then I'll make another choice when I get my 200 big red next week.
