I sort of stepped in it this weekend. Went riding on my Tri-Z with my son on the ice and had a great time.

When we got home my wife suggested that he should have a little machine of his own. Wow, I couldn't believe she'd suggest that since my toys have always been a sore subject for her. Then she said that I should see if the dealer would give me a better deal on the little one if I bought a new four wheeler for myself too.

The only catch is that I've got to get rid of at least one of my toys. I hate to let either the Z or my work-in-progress 490 go, but after thinking about it for a while I really want a new ride.

I've posted my contact info in the classified forum. If it's gotta go I'd prefer to have it go to one of you guys who'll appreciate it.

Yeah, by Darkside I mean a quad. Sorry if my sense of humor is a little dry. I'm really struggling with this because I've been a trike fan all my life but after spending some time on the new quads lately and getting the tentative "OK" from my wife, it's really tempting.

Consider it the "enlightened" side. Learn to master both. Then you will have personal knowledge as to how the two compare in different situations. There is so much misinformation being spread around from people who have such blind loyalty to one over the other, that you would really be doing your self a service. You do no disservice to trikes by expanding your horizons. Your not dropping trikes, you are adding quads. Your primary focus is your kid, and the more well rounded you are, the better you can teach him, and its high time to realize that depending on trikes as the future of off-road recreation for our kids is not a realistic plan.

if i was able to get a new 4 wheeler id do it. all i could afford was a trike at the time, and i think im gonna stick with them. all i used to have were quads.

Tim, you are totally right. This was the conclusion that I came to over the weekend.

For what it's worth, I can afford to keep all of them and my wife really just says that I have too many toys already. She's convinced me that if I get rid of all my "projects" and holdovers from my childhood and replace them with two new machines we'll all be better off becasue I'll be able to spend quality time with my son. I hate it when she's right.

Thanks for the moral support Tim.

Dammit!

I'd at least try to keep the Z though. It's a classic. :D

Just a thought. But Why don't you keep one of the projects for you and your son to work on? It is always a good idea for a father to pass on some living history to his son. You and him can restore or biuld one classic and keep your modern rides for serious riding. My son is now 12 weeks old and he already has two Tri Zingers. One of which I have already completely rebiult. I am now saerching for a YT 125 that he and I can restore when he gets around seven. If he wants to ride a quad that is fine, but at least we will have some father and son wrench time.

I got rid of my projects for a new machine. It was one of the biggest mistakes I made. It felt good for a while but being used to working on things I got very restless. I always knew I liked working on things but without any projects to work on I found out I loved it. My new quad is nice but I would give it up for a project anyday. As a matter of fact, I am. ;)

Yeah the time you spend riding or working on something with your kid the better off your relationship will be. My girls love to come out to my shop and help me and they are 5 and 2. I love it when they prop up their tricycles, bikes or Power wheels Jeeps to pretend like they are working on them. The oldest will be getting a quad for her 6th b-day and both love to ride with me in my lap. I see my 8 month old son's eyes perk up when he hears the 3 or 4 wheelers running. Either way spending that quality time is what counts! Either the new quads or just one for your boy and some resto projects done together will be time well spent!
