sorry for posting 2 threads in a row, but i gotta see if there is an interest for number plates....i have a reliable lead on some number plates...brand new number plates(around 40-50) that a friends dad has in the attic of his garage, theres supposedly 3 good size boxes of these..i am not promising anything, but if you are interested let me know as he is going to want a good $$$ for this stuff, as hes in his forties and hes not stupid...

if i buy them i want to be able to sell them ASAP to recover my cash and so i can have one! :D ...

just let me know on this post and if there is enough interest i will get them...

ok guys, heres the deal....they are going to probly be like 60$ a piece or around that...he wants 300$ for the boxes of 40-ish number plates....that about what he paid for them back in the day and he just wants his money back from them...they are exactly the same as the maier one on ebay(thanks to deathman for showing me the auction) and they are mostly white with a few red and a couple in green? maybe...it was dark and i was on a ladder in his attic so i couldnt tell very good, but i grabbed one of the white ones and it is just like the ebay maier one...they arent in bags, but there is probably a bunch of those fork tube connector parts in the bottom, i coupld only see a few(probly like10) from where i was on the ladder, but im sure there are more....thanks for the inteest guys...and i will keep you posted when i get them, probly in a couple days....nobody is going to buy them from under me cause nobody else knows about you guys that knows him, so no worries! ill have them soon.....

NICKG
02-15-2005, 12:43 PM

If they are like Howard's on ebay (a91explorer4x4 ??) then they are for the "fat tire" 250R ... possibly the older Tecate too.

I'm in NY.... I can drive up and pick up a few! Then swing by Holic's for some numbers! Let me know! Glad some other's picked up on the math! Guess having a teacher on here is wearing off! :p

well so you guys know, you can find these pretty easily by calling older bike shops(bicycle shops) to see if they have bmx plates still, they are the same...in fact they were originally intended to be used on them, not motorcycles or atv's...hated to tell a secret like that but gouging is the only thing I would call what this guy wants to do

I think the BMX ones are smaller, but that is just from what I have seen. I have the same Maier plate on my 83R, its ok, but its no UFO! It is funny how the numberplate is now the part to go "ga-ga" over. First is was the holy Cal-Fab, then the christ like wescoast, now the holy grail, the number plate!!

dirtface
02-15-2005, 05:32 PM
I like a number plate as much as the next person. But I'm with Nickg, this number plate stuff is getting way out of hand. There really isn't alot to one of those plates, and they are going for hundreds of dollars. Alot of the new ones you see on Ebay have stress cracks around the rivets.

oh yeah, and nickg...find one of these at a bmx shop, take a picture and show us how they are exactly the same....they arent....

NICKG

DUDE, YOU ARE A DICK.... and im not trying to rip people off, i need to pay bills, and they were probably the same price as that anyways....
dude, they were 9.99 each then. I will just go over to the local bike shop(where I used to get them) ,buy the 15 they have in the back and see you $60 with a sale 12.95 each . there is a point where making $ is ok...$52.50 each profit is waaayyy outa control, especially seeing that you can get them if you open your eyes and look...heck if you can sell them for that, I wil have them remade by maier and STILL under sell you by $30 and have all the colors, I would think that maybe you should have not said what they cost you, simple foot in mouth syndrome. trike', Maier made the ones sold by most bmx shops under several brands such as zeronine. they were pretty much the guys for these(aside from ufo)

That's what I was going to say. There were only around $10 when they were brand new back in the day.

Watch the name calling in this post. It's showing signs of spiraling toward a lockdown.

I'd like to have a red and/or a green one. I like that style of the white one someone posted earlier and dont have one like that. but not at $60 each. drop me a pm with your best price and pics if ya got em.

Also, i've got a few extra petty numbers I can part with. In fact, let me trade you some numbers for your new plate for a plate for me!! ;) :naughty:

guys see the trend here? I told you guys for a long time about those tank covers, trust me on this. when guys come on and GOUGE THE CRAP on these, think. These parts are still around, I think that maier still even makes them in one shape or another. alot of the parts are arounsd in place near you, you just have to look. don't think they are all gone, because they aren't. Guys like this one are taking advantage of people not knowing

depends on what size you bought, I know, that is where I bought mine when I raced trikes. having been big into bmx before atv's, I have bought say 100 or more of them. I always used the large square, vented ones for the redline bars i ran

NICKG
02-15-2005, 06:32 PM
well i did the math, I can make and sell these with a minimum order(50 pcs) for about 35 each in any color Maier currently makes. I have looked carefully into having some things made previously and just tok out my qoutes from last year

Look, some of you guys need to back off some. Dang. The guy finds a stockpile of hard to find stuff ( number plates ). With alot of your theories on original pricing, I should be able to get a complete speedo set up for my 350X for cheap. Hell no. They go for well over $150+. Give me a break. If the guy wants to make some money off them who cares. If you want one, pony up. If you dont or dont like the price, step off. No need to slam or rip a guy for this. I personally wouldnt want one if they were free. I dont like them. But if I did, $60 bucks isnt too bad compared to what they go for on Ebay. Last one I saw the other day was up well over $100. With some of your theories on pricing, a old Shelby Cobra should only be worth $8000. Hell thats what they sold for new. Try $100,000. Some things increase in value as they become old & scarce. After all these are original old school stuff. Not remans.Give me a break. :beer

well you guys, first i have to say thanks for backing me up clayw and deathman....but if some of you guys want to have them remade or whatever go ahead and do it, i found some and I think that 60 is a fair deal, if you cant afford it or whatever dont get one....i will offer them in the classifieds section when i get them and you can get one if you want....i really dont think that the bmx ones are the same, but if they are and you can get them cheap DO IT, i know i would! sorry if i made anybody mad, i just wanted to share my discovery with everyone else that wants one....i will still keep you guys posted on this....but dont diss me too much or i might SNAP  and sell all of them a little bit at a time on ebay for 100$ a piece....now lets all just settle down....

I got an ANSWER vented plate new in the bag for $10 from a local shop here that was around since the early 80's. he told me he still had a few when i got it.
it is white, sorta bigger than what i wanted. probably for an aircooled r or early tecate

Don't forget about me! I taught Math/Physics at the college and am NYS Certified in both. I got tons of tutorials and text books from publishers... solution guides, CD-Roms, test questions banks, etc. Think the going rate is a number plate or 2 for my services! :p
