It is pretty nuts. My father said to me, "we can leave it on the lawn (here in nyc) and no one would steal it, but its worth gold to you." Its pretty funny that such messed up parts are so important to us.

Anyway, I enjoy the teardown and rebuild. It feels great to take such a piece of crap that someone was throwing out and parting out, and save it and turn it around into a nice bike again. Although people part out bikes and rebuild them all the time, I'm sure more bikes get chopped than the amount of bikes getting built.

I hope I can build two of these back up. Either that or I will have one with plenty of parts left over.

I am interested in making one bone stock (or as close as I can get at least) and one tricked out like a racer.

The racer will have calfab swinger, durablue +4 axle, bills, dg, or klemm research pipe, UFO air filter lid, (JP Lid if anyone is willing to part with it), renthal bars, hoosier tires.

found out last week that my cousin does powder coating :Bounce now i need to get everything together for him.

I wish you could pick things up like that here in Australia, You don't know how lucky you guys have it over there.
I'm at the end of stage one of a restoration of an 87 Tecate, that is, its back together running again.
The saga so far; rebuilt motor, axle extenders, home made grab bar, rebuilt flywheel, new coil, new rear fender and left hand radiator shroud. The fuel tank is faded terribly and the right hand radiator shroud has been plastic welded, but its the best i can do considering that no one is making these parts, Damm you plastic industry!!!
Stage two will be mostly cosmetic, powdercoating the frame, and new stickers etc ...
But after I've had a good ride on it, Its been too long between drinks!

I know what you mean, I have a total of 27 trikes, I sell parts off of some of them and then there are a few that I gaurd like they are a family eirloom (sp?). Bad part is, the ones that I keep to myself are in worse looking shape then some of the ones that are the salvage bikes. Nice find on the Tecate, I only dream of such around here.....

You wouldn't have a 85 SX rearend would ya....I need the whole shaft, diff, and axle. I suppose if I could find a whole rearend that would be great. This is a great running bike and I would love to get it back together.

Thanks

I've got a 85 sx rear end. the kid I got the trike from ran it until the swinger came off of the frame. I stuck it back together long enough to ride it up and down the driveway a couple of times, and then parted it out. All my other sxs are 86s, so the 85 rear end does not fit. The axle is gone, and the swinger was trash. If you are interesed in the differential, my email is ATCnut@Comcast.net

Thanks sportvette. I don't want to step on any toes. Good luck putting your 86 back together. If you have any questions ask away.

250tecates... I have 2 86s and a 87, I used some of the better parts off the roller to put the other 2 together. It will be a roller, frame, forks, swinger, axle, all motor mounts, pegs, front and rear brakes, radiators, airbox, gas tank and a shock. The brakes will be good, the shock will need a rebuild. I am not sure what I have for 86/87 rear rims and hubs, I had a 84/85 axle in it w/ 84 rims on it. I do not have the seat pan / rear fender assembly or grab bar w/ it. Rite now it is 100% apart sitting on the shelf I was going to wait for a KX500 for it but I would love a red 85.
I have a few parts motors on the shelf that I want to keep around for parts, once you get into your I will be glad to help you out w/ anything you need. I know T3's like the back of my hand.
I live about 2 hours from you. I live in Oswego NY, north of Syracuse rite on Lake Onterio.
Let me know how all this sounds. I would love to try to work something out w/ you. PM me your # and I'll give you a call.
