Recently bought an 86' 350x, and havent been able to ride it yet due to it not starting. My guess is its a bad carb but I bought the rebuilt kit and left the carb in acid over night and yet doesnt start only if I pull it from behinde my other ATV then once on I have tried adjusting the carb to idle but the bike is not responding to my adjustments its like if I were not doing anything....Im getting frustraded does anyone out there have enough knowledge or suggestions as to what to do next??????? Could it be an electrical problem, or maybe even an engine? I still think its the carb but I maybe wrong....... Please anyone that can help

Its hard to say. But I have a question. You soaked the carb in Acid? What kinda Acid? Hopefully not anything too strong. The carb is alluminum and has a electroplated finish on the inside and out. Acid will etch it or worse. Eat the hell out of the alluminum. That may be why it wont run. It might be suking air like crazy now. Im dont mean to sound snotty at all. Im just trying to find out more info.

Did you have all the rubber o rings out before you soaked it? Compression test will tell you alot also about the rings and valves.

It could very well be out of valve adjustment too.

Its a gallon of carb cleaner made by gunk that Ileft it in over night and took off all plastic and rubber parts...... I am working on it right now Im gona try to lower my jet 1 level to see if this does anything...How do I adjust the valves? how do I know if its out of timing or not? Matbe my jst adjustment inside the carb is off when I put it back together, how many turns should i give each jet?

Cam adjustment??? What exactly are you talking about?? 350X has an auto cam chain tensioner... was it actually off timing? Like you had to move the teeth forward or back?

I'd suggest buying a HONDA Service Manual..... Valves should only have .003" (0.08mm)of clearence on TDC Cylinder...... compression 178 +/- 14 psi.

I know stock jet is 138. I have a UNI filter and a Cobra on the "Go-Go" and I put a 142 jet in and lowered the clip one. I've never messed with any of the other adjustments on my carbs. Pilot jet should be tightened in til it seats lightly, then back out 1¾ turns.

You cant compression test a 350x. They have a compression release when you kick them.

You can compression test a 350X, you just have to think outside the box. One way is to get someone with another machine, and have them pull you. I use a screw in compression gauge. Attach the gauge, put a rope from the front of the 350X to the other machine, and have them tow you. Works best on pavement. Drop the clutch in 2nd or 3rd gear and the compression gauge will pump up.

I'm not saying its impossible. But you cant just hook it up and get your compression. You can also disconnect the cable and kick it.
