Ok.... picked up the 300R motor tonight. Has anyone put one of these into a 81-82R frame? I got that '84 Hondaline Dealer Catalog in the mail last week. Has a table of the ATC's from '80-'84 showing what assessories are available for each. I know the 81-84R motors are basically the same, but I was amazed it didn't show the "HPO 300R Option" available for the 81 or 82R... just 83-84R. After seeing this in person, I'm concerned that maybe it was a height issue with the spark plug/extra cooling fins? or something to do with the exhaust or the different 83/84 carb? Anyhow... here's some pics of it..... has a couple issues, but will look at that more this weekend. It has great compression and the carb looks to be clean... very clean!

What is a 300R? Is it Bored out or is it a special 300cc motor I never heard of? :wondering

Air Cool Fins can be ground down like they do on the Harleys if its a problem. Unless you have to gind them more than 1/4" Those fins look tall though. If its a problem you might get away with it with the use of a Dremel :w00t:

It was a Hondaline assessory kit. Officially called the "HPO High Performance Kit" Basically its a larger jug/pist/head Honda developed that bolted to your 250R bottm to give you 300cc, thus it's been dubbed the "300R" kit.... I'll scan in a pic of it from the Dealer catalog when I get home... got to head off to school!

bill you got a 82 frame and such right? i know the sifter shaft is longer on 81 82 than the 84 83 b/c blazer had to change his when he put a 84 motor in a 82 frame so i thingk you will have to watch out for that and if you put whole motor in their you will be fine b/c when i had my nos 300R kit it said it would not work on a 81 motor said would fit 82 83-84 so change whole motors and you might have a chance minus the shifter shaft frist thing i would do is get it running and make sure its in good shape i also know someone that will make pistons!

Yeah you will have to change the shifter shaft. you should just sell that to me.lol

Blazer... I see you were bidding on an aircooled motor. This one ended on eBay on my Birthday for ~$107!! there was a misunderstanding with another board member. He bid on it and met the reserve, I then pm'ed him after he got outbid and asked him what he was going to snipe it at. He said $200, so I told him I'd not bid, cause I was only going to go to $160. When I got home, the other guy won it for ~107.... the other board member here didn't rebid! Luckily, the guy who won it only lived a couple hours away... I asked if I could buy it off him for what he paid and a bit more to cover his travelling/hassle. So now it's mine! :w00t: Did anyone buy that one in Elkart that had the 300R kit AND the boost bottle? That was mounted on a "red" motor, so I'm assuming 81/82. I also have a spare 83R motor, and that mint FTZ racing head too.

So what's the deal with the shifter shaft? How "too long" is it? Does it hit the frame/footpeg or what?

Well.... I was going to build another trike... not put it in the current 'R' I have. I basically have enough parts to build another 82R. I do have a few 83R parts, but I really want to do is have one 82R stock/OEM Other one with 300R/NASA rear axle/DG pipe/IMS tank/15 gearing etc.....

Bruce, you want me to send you both frames I have? I have that 82r with swinger and that poorly painted 83R frame. They are yours if you want them. I just need to head to the packing store and buy about 20$ worth of bubble wrap for them.............peace

You know I know where to get them. With a slight hone you can use the new style forged piston.

As far as getting it to fit in a 81 82 I dont know, but a need to . I have a couple 81 82 I can get cheep. I have a line on a couple more Honda Line jugs.
Its tight in a 84 .

The key in the description of a 300r kit is ,It's stock bore. Not punched out that far.

It fits in my 81. I just got a brand new kit and mocked it up quick. Time for the paint and polish now.

Will it fit with the exhaust and gas tank on it.... that's the final question! :D

You trust Mike to hold that frame while you took the pic??

hahahaa

Looking good... we might have to start a 300R class at TF05! :TrikesOwn

The exhaust and carb mocked up just fine. If I have to reshape the tank a little that's fine with me.

I, Bruce H (aka 350x'inNY) want to make sure that edog (aka the chicken hawk) never ever receives any parts that were once in my possession. Anyone who trys to sell him parts that were once in my possession shall lose any endowment I bestowed onto them and I will personally haunt and curse you from beyond the grave if possible.

Meanwhile.... back at my 300R thread.... mike you just have 300R envy.. stop aggravating others and adding replys to yourself like a edog... hahaha

I was looking at my 82R today and the 300R motor and a spare 83R motor I have at the shop. The 83R motors look like they have a shorter shaft, but there's an offset on the shift lever. Why can't I use the 83 motor with that shifter lever? I don't see where it'll hit my frame?? The 82 motor has the longer shaft, but the offset in the shifter lever looks nearly straight out.
