will a sports air filter improve peformance of my dx

i am askin if a sports air filter ( induction Kit ) will improve the performance of my dx. the standerd air filter is in a box which mans that there is less air intake is it worth buying an air filter. pl repli bck

i bought my DX filter from the yamaha shop in OKC
but it didnt say what kind it was
it said AIR FILTER by Genuine yamaha

i am on about an induction kit it is supposed to upgrade the horsepower by 3-4. i wanna know if it is worth putting on
