Whats all in all better?? I am hopefully buying 2 parts 250R's and making one good bike outta the 2, but my dad doesnt want me riding a tipy bike, so i told him i would either put an extended axle on it or wheel spacers so it aint really tippy

All i will be riding is sand dunes, and some hard pack trails, but no mud, no tight trails, so width is not really a problem

So, what is your opinon on the extended axles?? bend easily? I wont be hitting many jumps, but i occasionaly take a 4 foot double (4 feet high, only a 6 foot gap) will it stand up to that? if not then i wont hit that one, i will just hit smaller ones

What about wheel spacers? i heard they put more stress on your hubs and axle, and a more possiblity of breaking an axle or destroying the hub

Thanks for the info

axle, spacers bend axles. What year r, and what kind of riding you are gonna do has alot to do with it. If you have a 85/86 r, you can put on offset rims and widen the bike 4 inches. Wide isn't always good, if you are doing woods stay fairly narrow(stock w/offset rims)

definetly axle, its gonna be costly though, might be able to find a deal on eaby, but durablue gets $489 for them. A few good jumps and hello to a bent axle. If you read the instrucions that come with more spacer, they say "not for jumping", "not for mx", something of that nature.

He also said it's for a 82R.... I think your "extended" axle options are discontinued. I bought a NOS NASA HD rear axle as a spare and put axle extenders on my stock axle.. If I bend it, I'll just replace it. I'm not a "big air" person, more a "Big Mac" kinda guy.... :D

ouch, thats alot of money!!!

Maybe i will just add spacers, and when i leave take them off when i am out of site, so i can hit jumps, LOL

but, seriously, i gotta think bout that, thats alot of cash, unless i can find one in a junk yard cheap..

I see you are thinking about buying a 82 and a 84 r...I not a expert but I don't believe many of the parts will interchangable...correct me if I am wrong guys

"My dad doesnt want me to ride a tippy bike"

lol, I'm assuming you did'nt get to ride 2-wheeled bikes either huh? Them two wheelers are tippy as heck.

No, he would rather see me on a dirt bike, because you can use your feet to stop a tip, but on a trike, you will get a broken leg if you use your legs to stop a tip

anyways, i have decided to fix up both bikes, sell the 84 and keep the 82 for riding, i will be selling my warrior (sniff sniff, its a great bike) and riding the 250R full time

Just one question, my local scrap yard doesnt have any top ends for any R's, will a CR 250 head bolt up the same? since i think they are both the same motor, only different carbs, are all CR250's liquid? if the one i buy is liquid, can i hook up a rad to it as well??

I think the early year 250R's have the same engine as the same year air cooled cr's, but dont quote me on that. You can use just about any radiators on any liquid cooled bike, but if you are wondering anout hooking radiators up to an air cooled bike, it's not possible.

They've been liquid sence 81.

In my Feb of dirtwheels, it says the 81 250r is essentially a cr250 engine with with a bigger flywheel and smaller carb, so I guess that means that the engine is the same as the 81-82 cr's, since the 81and82 250R's were the same right? I wouldnt take that to heart, unless you can get the top end for fairly cheap, I am sure thst someone on here knows for sure though.

I wish I knew but even if it did you still need a lot more than a jug to make a motor liquid. I'm pretty sure the case halves would be different and you'd still need a way to pump the water. From what I hear the air-cooled R's do really well without liquid cooling anyway. Sorry I don't have much for ya.

Go to www.powersportspro.com and look up the 81-82 CR250, you'll see they are very different motors.

I think he want's to know if an air cooled cr jug will work on the aircooled 81-82R.

lol, they didn't make an air cooled cr250 in 81-82.

Are you sure? Dirtwheels said they did, I dont know much about bike statistics, maybe they meant 1980cr since the 81R's came out in 1980?

So your going to keep the 82? The 84 is an all around better bike then the 82 in every aspect. Both are aircooled, only the 85/86 Rs are liquid cooled.

A 84 tank will NOT fit a 82 frame BTW...

I wouldn't believe anything Dirtwheels says. They are just as dumb about trikes as they were 25 years ago.

Come on, I know they had aircooled cr250's around the late 70's early 80's, I dont know if the jugs will bolt up, but if you get the parts cheap, it's worth a try.

I have the Dura Blue 2.5" wheel spacers on my Tri Moto what a differance it has made in handling.
