well i have my r down for a few weeks. you wouldn't belive what a pain in the butt is was to get that motor out. Had to take off the back end just about being the swingarm was in the way! haha. But while i have the motor out i have a spare topend that is ported polished and bored .20 over. i was wondering what a good size carb would be to get? im not sure what stock carb is on my bike but i think its a 27mm and i would like to put a bigger one on. i have a 85r carb here but one of the jets is messed up its stripped out or something. what size carb should i go with?
Thanks for all the help guys you help out so much!

I'm going to switch to a 36mm on mine. I "THINK" the stock carb is the restriction on that engine. I'm sure it will wake it up. Look for a nice flatslide from a TRX. Nice upgrade!

Yeah I switched mine to a 36mm mikuni flatslide and she is very responsive. I would definently gowith a 36 or 38 flatslide.

If you already have a stock carb from a '85 R there, save yourself some money and just use that. It's a 34mm so it will be a nice upgrade. Fixing that jet won't be a problem because you're going to have re-jet the thing no matter what with a different top end on there.

Well I have an 85 250R carb on my 84r and it works great with the full exhaust system. So I would lean towards the same and maybe change the jetting some, since you have it bored............peace

well i just put the topend from my parts bike on and after i installed it looked with the other parts for my parts bike and the reeds are after market or stock 85...I also looked at the carb i have that i got off a 85r and it says 37mm....? is that a stock carb for the bike or no? and the jet on the carb thats messed up is the air jet its like its to big for it or something it don't go in all the way. You can get it most of the way in then it won't go in? any help on that would be great. I don't know the history of the parts bike i have all i know is i got it off my cousin for $150 :naughty: and everything for it was thier.
Please help if you can.
Thanks

I believe stock carb on a '85 R is a 34mm round slide (same size but flat slide for a '86).
As for the messed up jet, can't you just replace it? Odds are it isn't going to be the right size for the different bike anyway. They don't cost much.
