When replacing rings on a engine as long as the cyclinder is hones do you still have to change the jug???

As long as you rehone the cylinder (Hone meaning to lightly scratch the cylinder wall so the two cycle oil has a surface to adhear to) and you have no major gouges or deep scratches then you only need new rings not a new jug.

you can only have so much wear or clearance, if there is too much clearance between piston and cylinder, you usually get cylinder bored out oversize , with new oversized piston and rings. take to dealer or ask for clearance specs. But usually you can just hone out cylinder and install new rings if not scored or gouged on cylinder walls. But still get things measured in case someone hasn't already bored it out. hope this helps.

You usually need about 2-3 thousands of an inch between cylinder and piston
