I havent seen to many of these but Dennis Kirk has a LSR machined aluminum bouble row carrier for the 85 ATC 250R for $156. Is there a better deal somewhere else? The stock ones are going pretty high used and new they are more than the LSR in Dennis Kirk. The LSR is definitely better in the chain adjustment department. I wouldnt mind using the stock carrier if I could find one in decent shape at a decent price but why pay over $100 for the used one when the LSR is only a few bucks more. I got that cheap one and it turned out to be the wrong one. The catalog had an error in it. I had to get the $200 one.

I just purchased and installed a Lone Star Racing billet aluminum bearing carrier in my '85 250R and have to say that I am very happy with it. The factory Honda is junk. I cut my factory carrier deeper so I could put 4 bearings in it and it lasted longer than the factory 2 did. But when I got my Lone Star carrier I was very impressed with it. It comes complete and ready to install. It uses two double wide bearings instead of 4 thin bearings. It also has a zink fitting in it so you can pack it with grease before you install it. The chain adjustment holes work perfect. I think they make two different carriers. The cheaper one was cast aluminum and I bought the more expensive (over $200) billet carrier. Dura-Blue makes one for about $270 and RAD mfg makes one for about $170. Go with the Lone Star Racing one if you plan on doing any amount of riding.

Well.....I was wrong after all....the carrier is listed as "machined aluminum" and is $199.99 "OUCH". I was a little choked up with the $156. Oh well....

Mike is it the carrier of the bearings that are failing?

I assume you mean the carrier OR bearings. I have replaced my stock carrier bearings once, when they got loose I cut the carrier deeper on a Bridgeport to accept two of the stock bearings per side. They lasted until my brake rotor hub wore and I overtightened it trying to make the axle tight. That is when I deceided to just buy an aftermarket LSR carrier. My stock carrier was broken at the chain adjustment area and looked like crap anyway. But the LSR is a far better design overall. I replaced everything in the rear. Bearing Carrier, Brake Rotor,Rotor Hub, Lock Nuts,...everything. I ended up not riding it for a month because it cost me almost $500 to replace everything. My Braking brake rotor was $110 by itself. But it was all worth it. GOOD PARTS ARE NOT CHEAP!!!!!. [/u]

This Company makes some of the hottest 3 wheelers in SoCal, I've seen them run. They offer new carriers for 174.00, I think they have tapered bearings too.

if you go with tapered, the brake stay may not work with it. check into it before you buy. As for a carrier, I had a lonestar billet, great item. I got rid of it for a RadMFg Billet. same material, close to the same cost, but what sold me is the grease zerk. It isn't placed in the middle of the carrier(needing you to either cut a hole in the swing-arm crush tube, or take it out to grease) The Rad Mfg has the zerk placed in the END of the carrier. No need to cut, or drill. Just spin the wheels until the holes in the sprocket hub aline with the zerk in the end of the carrier. stick the grease gun thru the hub, and onto the zerk. SWEET setup. I now own 2 of these great items. One on my 350X Trike and another on my 300EX Quad (now switched around, 350EX Quad and 300XTrike) I got mine for $174 to the door.

I bought a new one for my 86 R from ServiceHonda.com for $135 brand new. I would look into them before you buy some aftermarket crap.

Dude, call Dennis Kirk's scratch & dent store. I was there 3 weeks ago and they had an LSR bearing carrier for an 85 ATC250R for like $90...new in box!

Hy Tech is a well respected company. They can stand up to Trinity and Alba any day, They are all SoCal companies, and Hy Tech specilizes in 3wheller's and Quad's, the others don't.
RPM and Lone Star are by far the best, but they are the most expensive too.
Sealed bearing work for me, but I don't run in much water.

I hope the term "crap" is just a way of saying "stuff". If you WERE trying to say that the aftermarket carriers are lesser quality than the stock OEM Honda carrier, you need your head examined. There is NO WAY a stock Honda CAST carrier will hold up as well as the many aftermarket BILLET replacements out today. Somebody Please back me on this one. I would hate for anyone to think I am just BLOWIN' SMOKE.

Well I called the DK scratch and dent and got the LSR for $125....cheaper than stock. I like it better than the stock...especially the fact that its billet and the chain adjustment looks easier. Seems most agree.
