Well.

Alot of you on here seem to be big fans of "restored to original ".

However.. i'm more of the " Custom, one of a kind " look.

curious as to everyone's opinion ! ;)

i like a good restored trike but i also like a custom trike...i cant decide which i like better. i love all trikes! nice, custom, okay, or even JUNK!

Dammit!

Depends on the trike for me. I wouldn't customize one of the more rare models. Something like a 250R or anything that's still out there in large numbers is fair game though.

I don't think I'd custom a ute but any sport trike I would

Because trikes are getting old, im to the opinion of If you get it and its in original condition and needs some love then its a restore, if you get it and its a bucket of crap then customise!

Anybody out there have or even ever seen a customized Big Red 250es??? If so post pics?

If not, what could someone do to a mud hog like this to customize it?

18" tires on alminum rims, and 82 250r front end and front fender and disc brake, skinny front tire on an aluminum rim, put on some handlebars, mx grips, remove anything not nessasary to make it run, remove lights, remove racks, put on a pipe and filter, make a custom 12 0'clock bar, powercoated pieces here and there, a few more motor mods. Is that custom or what? :D I would be crazy enough to pull something like that off and do it to a utilty trike. :D

I'm more into the customize then restore. I saw a pristine, never touched 87 200x on .ORG a while back and was like yeah go to town on it, pipe, XR cam, number plate, 18's, spacers...whatever you can afford. That comment was quickly followed by boo's and hiss's. lol

I went the custom route on my Tecate and it turned out nice, still looks close to stock.

Sure is, its plastic canvas from the knitting section. Works great and lets the radiator get full flow.

greenmachine, I would not say that is "customized" at all. The only bikes Ive seen that would fall into that category for me are chainsaws old 250R and any of trolls creations. I personally prefer the old school "modified" look. leave the billet alum. and wire wheels on the homeys banshees. old school is cool.

Example, I have a YT175 that has a vintage pro tec rear suspension, DG head, white bros pipe IT200 intake and boost bottle, hand built axle extensions with to run Honda pattern 4/110 wheels, to wich are bolted some Mitchell aluminum rims and Armstrong 18" turf tamers. I would not call that custom at all! thats the way we were modding them back then, so its just "modded" not "customized".

I hear what your saying but I do have a few non 85 parts that go along with the aftermarket stuff(spacers, V-Force reed cage, DG pipe, Moose guards). I'm also using the 86/87 Tecate rear plastic and a Raptor shock, along with a Husky flatslide...those parts to me are what make it customized, feel free to disagree.

I don't believe that you are using the word correctly, thats all.

I dont think I am either, customized would be black plastics, skull replacing the headlight, flame stickers, etc...

But what I have is not a restoration either, restoration would be returning all stock parts back to showroom quality.

So my bike is modded, not customized, not original.

BGM,

Your Tecate falls into the 'Kick***' category! I like it. :D

The tecate is indeed quite nice, but I think what machines really take the "custom" philosophy and run with it would be like Chainsaw's Tri-z (guzzler) or his old all black 250r with the flames and skull light. Pretty soon my big red will be finished, you guys are going to love it! Its going to be an absolute mud monster! What really I envision as a "custom" would be a machine that you look at and say "holy crap you'd need an 8 point harness to ride that thing", or one that you could just see cruising low and cool.

We all use terms like restoration and customize loosely.

I say no matter what you do, personalize it. That's what matters.
