250r storage question

i have a 1983 250r and i want to store it standing straight up and down (you know, it will be resting on the grab bar). i got it up the other day and gas poured out of the overflow line even when i had the petcock in the off position. Why do u think it did this?? do i need to drain the gas from the tank? also...is there any disadvantages to doing it this was.

hehehe...i fell kinda dumb askin that question :rolleyes: :wondering , but i have alwas left it on all 3's when its stored

That's normal. It will drain out the gas from the float bowl then stop.

Its actually go to drain gas from the float because if that gas sits it can get gummed up and clog your carb. I just started storing my trikes upright and have not seen anything bad happen yet.
