Took the rims and hubs off my '84 200es, got it up on the stand and I notice the axel isn't dead on when I spin it fast...bout 1/8" wobble on both sides...is that about normal?...if not can it be straightened out?

I appreceiate the help...

There shoudnt be any noticable wobble, the usual cause is worn bearings in the axle carrier, grab ahold of one side of the axle with the rearend in the air, try moving it up and down, if it has alot of movement then your bearings probably need replacing. This is not a very hard job, and isnt too expensive. If your axle is bent then you CAN have some good shop straighten it, although it would probably be cheaper just to buy a used one on here or on ebay.

Went out to try and wiggle the axel..no luck, it's tite..I looked at the microfiche over at bikebandit and the axel is one solid peice, mine has two big nuts next to each other (lol) just on the right side of the diff...WTF?

Those 2 big nuts hold the axle in the carrier, take them off, and the axle will slide right out.

On my bike turn nut closer to center.Pull off C clip under it.And back off the end . Everything comes off one side to pull through. Thats a 250R may be close to same theory.

Is that really all there is to it? you don't the diif cover apart...there's alot of o-rings and shims and seals and horseshit in the schematic I'm looking at....just pop her out and pop the new one in, eh?

This machine will be grunting through the woods of Michigan's upper peninsula..by no means will it ever be a thoroughbred...25mph is way too fast if it could even go that fast..I've never driven it more than around the yard here but would a 1/8" axel wobble shake the ride up at such low velocity? Hmmm....I won't get an oppertunity to drive it now til at least april..It'll be in a hundred peices til then going through the rebuff. If it's going to be a big problem I'll just do axel right away too.

So why did you guys take-out the axels? and did they go back in without cracking open the diff?
