Chain rubbing on swing arm

So I noticed the chain on my 86 tecate was putting a groove in the swing arm. So I put a new sprocket on the front with 1 more tooth then stock, but it is still rubbing. Then I adjusted the seat height adjuster to the lowest to try and get a straight shot, so the chain doesn't hit but that didn't work either. I attached a photo and you can see the groove. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Don't you need some sort of plastic buffer between the swingarm and the where the chain rests.

All my ATV's have this...motocrossers too...

Just noticed the same thing on my 86 T-3. Mine has the chain guide on it except in the area where the swingarm bolt goes through the swingarm (directly behind the counter sprocket) and thats where my chain rubs.

I grooved mine too 6 or 7 years ago. Fortunately I caught mine before it grooved anything except the round part on the front. I was out riding and stopped to take a break and noticed my chain buffers were gone. I guess they were probably the original ones and gave up the ghost. Anyway they had broken off and the chain was left to run on top of the swingarm. That's the price of having an aluminum swingarm with, i'm sorry to say, a cheezy set of chain buffers. I got new buffers and never fixed the grooves. Thought allot about it but they don't seem to be a problem. Only way to fix them would be to have some aluminum weld layed on them and grind them smooth again.

The 84/85 Tecate had a chain buffer that totally wrapped around the swingarm. And they had a STEEL swingarm! In fact you couldn't remove it without removing the swingarm. Why Kawasaki changed to something with less protection in 86 is beyond me. Must have thought they had a better design. :wondering

On the swingarms you see for sale, if you ask the seller if the swingarm is grooved in that area you'll probably find allot of them are.

I have had 2 different chain guides there. One was an from an 84 that I made fit and the other was the original, it wore throught both. So are you saying I shouldn't worry about this?

I think he is saying that the grooves that are there are ok. As long as you install some new buffers.Good luck ,GREG

My chain buffers look fine, top and bottom but the chain is still rubbing the rounded area where the swingarm bolt is located. It's a Calfab also so I would hate to ruin it. Any ideas on what I could do to remedy this problem?

Is the chain buffer a discontinued item for a Tecate?

By the way Apollo, my swingarm grooves look identical to yours and I have good chain buffers.
