I'm working on restoring my 225dx. I bought it brand new but its been so long I dont even remember what year it is for certain.

I remember the factory tires handling very well and that they seemed alot less round than the knobbies I have now.

Anybody remember what brand they came with ?

On a related note I have found aluminum rear wheels that fit the 225 but are there front wheels available anywhere?

I think they were Douglas wheels for the rear that my buddy found for me.

Yeah thats the way I remember the tires looking when I got it.

Thanks alot.

The only ones I could find were the .125 thickness wheels. I was going to buy them, but everyone including the guys at Douglas told me they bent easily.Better ask some of these guys that know before you buy.

Heres another thought...

Will the hubs from a Tri-Z 250 fit the 225 axle?

If so that opens up alot more options for wheels since I think the Blaster wheels are the same as the Tri-Z and much easier (and cheaper) to find aftermarket.

THE FRONT RIM IS THE SAME AS THE REAR.

just buy three rims.

I think its probably better then to swap out the hubs and get the aluminum wheels for a blaster then. The only wheels for the 225 were the .125 and you can get .190 for the blaster.

Wow thats a very mint looking 225 you have there. $90 for OEM wheels ? Thats a lot for steel. Mine are rusted pretty bad and have been repainted a few times. Mine has had a rough life since I was 12 when I got it in 83.....geez that was a long time ago....

Another question the only number I have on the frame is 29U-008995

I did a search on the forum to find out how to decode it but couldnt find anything. I know its a 225DX but not certain of the year.

If it has reverse it's an 86, no reverse either a 83, 4 or 5. There is a emmisions label or at least should be by the serial #. Look close.......it says the year.

My # is 29U-092188 and it's an 84 if thats any help. Is it a yellow one? If so it's either a 83 or 4 I think.

A pic of the graphics would tell us for sure.

Yeah its yellow. The guy at the Yamaha shop just called my back and said its an 84 model 225DXK. Any stickers that used to be on the frame are long gone now. When I was a kid it was about my only source of amusement on the farm every summer so god only knows how many miles are really on it.

I'm guessing if it came with a twist throttle its a K model and a thumb throttle is an L model.

K just means its a 83, L is 84, N would be a 85 (they skipped the letter M for some reason) So if it's a 84, should be a 225DXL officially.

If you swap the hubs out to change bolt patterns, your still going to have the front wheel to deal with.

Interesting the guy at the shop said it was an 84 from the number but the book for it which I still have says its a 225DXK model. That should mean its an 83 model which I thought all along.

Yeah that does leave the front wheel but with the brakes on it doesnt really show that much anyway like the beat up rear ones do.
