might be gettin a trike, need to know what it is!!

OK, my dad's friend has a trike, electric start honda, pretty sure a 200, chain drive, i am thinkin 200M or big red, but am pretty sure the BR is shaft

anyways, if i offer him bout 500 bucks, i will own it, and its in decent chape, i just want something to fix up, sell and then sell the quad, then have a good amount of cash to buy a 250R or SX yea know, something i wanted for a long time

So, any ideas what it will be?? all i know for sure is that it needs a front tire, new decals and a general tune up, but it does run, just not the greatest

i like the 200m the 85s- up have better gearing and do about 52 mph with 25's on them,

chain drives can have reverse... my neighbor has a Kazuma kids atv and it has reverse. Just letting you know.. And either way.. its a honda.. so buy it!

If you have nothing to add... then DON'T.

He's trying to ID his machine. HONDA ATC's that were 200's that had reverse were SHAFT DRIVE ONLY. The chain drive 200 ATC's did not have reverse.

So from that... he was saying the chain drive doesn't have reverse... which is true!

From what you say, it has to be a 82-83 Big Red (200E) or a 84-85 200M.

82 Big Red - Had a silver/grey ~2" thick Horizontal strip on the tank.
83 Big Red - Had a somewhat vertical stripes on the tank that were blue and white.

1982 and 1983 ATC200e (big red) trikes all have electric start and are all chain drive, 200es is shaft drive (only 200cc big red with reverse). I have both years of chain drive Big Reds, they are excellent trikes.

how does a 200M compare to a 200 big red?? speed, reliability, mud, snow, that kinda stuff

200M and the older 200E chain drives were basically the same trike except the Big Reds had the L-H subtranny and racks standard. (I know at least the 84 200M had the same plastics as our 82-83 Big Reds we had then.)

I coulda swore that the 200S had a reverse and was chain driven? My grandpa has one and I cant remember for sure the last time I rode it. Hmmmm
