Doesn't say much about it and I'm not sure how reliable this would be, almost seems too cheap. What do you guys think? Possibley a big risk?
Dammit!

Looks like it might be a little too tall. E-mail him and ask for some measurements.

Never thougth about the height, I think you're probably right. I'll email him.

It'll definitley be too tall for an ATC frame. On my 310 w/ the billet head, I can barely get the spark plug boot on/off without taking the tank off and this motor looks to be at least 1"-2" taller.

He said it's like an inch taller than stock, I dont think it will fit. I wonder why it is so cheap.

You americans... If this scenario was happening in australia, it would be made fit!
Everything has to bolt in for you guys. Just make some minor changes to get the damn thing in there.

I see where you are coming from but my ATC250R is just about as nice of an all original one as you can find and I don't want to cut the frame. I've heard of people cutting a half circle out of the frame to clear the spark plug so I know it will fit, just not the way I want it to. I used to be a welder so I also have the know how and my dad has a big snap-on mig but I don't want to molest my 3-wheeler!

I dont think it would fit in a trike. On a TRX250R it probably would because of how the frame is made.
HaggLE, This isn't bolt in, I can assure you!

What exactly do you have going on there?

XR500/350x conversion. 500 engine is so big the already large 350x engine cradle had to be lengthned by 3 inches. That is in its crude state. I've been working on it some more recently, rode it a little yesterday afternoon. Test ride it at Trikefest if you like :)

That's totally awesome. I'm gonna try to make it to trikefest, hopefully with my 250R or I'll have to be riding my 450R. Yikes!! What year motor are you using, I can't really tell my the pics, looks like 79-82. I tried to put an 82 XL500 motor in an 87 250X and it was gonna be some work. I have 3 82 XL500's and an 84 XR500 (super nice). One XL is for parts. I was thinking of trying to turn it into a 3-wheeler. I also have an article where they put an 82 XR top end on a 350X, I was thinking of doing that as well.

Heh the motor is a conglomeration from about 3 different years. Most of the parts are '79 XR, but the Head (Which has reeds) is from an 81 XR (I think, heh). I need to get some more updated pictures and make a new thread for it. Those are about a year or so old, maybe more now.
A while back there was a guy on .org who claimed to have an XR500 topened on his 350x and that it was "a bolt on mod". I claimed shens because I knew better and caught some flack because of it. Later on pictures were posted showing that the XR cylinder has such a bigger sleeve, that the 350x one can fit inside of it, heh. It can be done but its not going in the 350x cases without ALOT of machine work :p

I have an ariticle on my computer where Four Stroke tech put the top end of an XR500 on a 350X motor in a trx250r frame. lol. It might have just been the XR head (bigger valves) and a bored 350X cylinder, it was 500cc though. I'd have to look again. Send me your email and I'll send it to you. I'm off work but I can send it on Fri if you want it.

Sure, gridiron@atlantic.net
I have heard of the head swap being done, and honestly it does look pretty easy.
I gotta do some major carb work on mine. Runs good at low RPM but very lean elsewhere.
