First off, thanks for all the great responses for all my questions. Lots of ideas and things to try thrown around. :TrikesOwn
Upon it's first firing up in 2 years after a full rebuild, the headpipe was gliowing red hot in like a minute. The idle is all messed up and revving to the moon. The exhaust is stock and like new condition. The pilot was turned out 2 full turns from being set. I'm not sure the jet sizes, whatever came with the kit.
I took off the CDI cover and stator cover and aligned everything up on TDC. Including the little cdi thing behind the 10mm bolt with the rubber piece. Apparently that's supposed to be lined up when the crank is on the F mark. Would this be the cause of my glowing hot headpipe? Maybe the timing is WAAAY advanced causing it to run hot?

im not quit sure why it is glowing orange, but i can tell you one thing when I put my Dg rcm exhaust on my auto x when it first started up with tthe new pipe it glowed orange for about 2 minutes but it has never done it since.

make sure its not clogged up with something. I had a rats nest in one of my 85r pipes and it ran bad and got really hot.

Air leak in the intake tract causing it to run lean and idle high.

I had the same thing happen on my big red and it turned out I had my jets backwards, I had the highflow largest jet were the small one goes and vise versa, I had the same symptoms mentioned.

This is normal on 450R's so I'm other models do it as well.

Oldschoolin I will also disagree with you. I have seen it as well. However, Kilabeez has a multiple problems with his trike so in this reference I can see. But it is very hard to follow what exactly is going on with his trike. Kilabeez a suggestion, Post all issues in one thread. I wouldnt worry about the orange until you get the high idle fixed, the shaking fixed, and whatever else you have going on fixed.

Oh jeeez, don't get me started on exriders. That site is horrible. When your not getting the sponcership force feed you can take a break and answer a should I 440 my 400ex question.

Alright, I'll admit I haven't seen a lot of these new 450's in action but why doesn't the one I ride do it? Due to the stong voice of all of you I'll hold my opinion on these newer machines but it still applies to these older ones.

WELL MINE,my brothers and four other guys i ride with all glow orange and alot of others i have seen and ridden with ALL glow orange!!! have you ridden your yfz at night?? most are jetted lean to pass emmissions so they glow more ,,, i have jetted mine from a 155 main to a 170 which is about right,,, i also went from a 42 pilot to a 48 and built a new baffle to help backpressure ,,,, it makes a big difference with no airbox lid too,,,,

I thought you were saying that it was normal for the head pipe to be glowing in daylight and I don't mean idling. lmao

before i did all the work to mine it did glow ,,,,, in daylight in the night all the time ,,, now it it alot richer and less backpressure so it only glows at night,,,,

Ha ha, this is good. My 450R was about the same way as Kasey's 450. I only notice it glow red at night but it is really bright. It had a 118 main stock and with the HRC kid they give you a 185 main. I don't think my Yoshimura head pipe glows as easy as the stocker either.

I think everyone will agree that exhaust heat++=hot (Or in this case, red) pipe correct?
Will everyone else also agree that a lean fuel/mixture will increase egt's?

I think everyone agree's with all of that. And I think everyone was just trying to have some fun, stir the pot.

I'll work on posting all my issues in one thread. You have a point, it was basically the first time I've fired it up and I made like 3 threads with each problem :D . I got the glowing orange kink worked out. I had some carb adjusting to do. I also had the throttle cable screwed way out on the handle. It was causing it to rev to the moon :o Thanks for all the help :beer

i wouldn't say poorly,,, i am sure a good percentage of them will run that way all there life, most people don't even mess with jetting if their machine runs, wether its right or not , there are just some people like me that have to screw with things anyway,,, to try to make things better ,,, i am sure yamaha wouldn't send them out so poorly tuned that they would melt down,,also the head pipe is so thin it heats up real fast too,,, if you put a 350x head pipe on it i am sure it would not be red ,,, or orange,,,
