Good day
this is my work in progress 84 R. Its going all black, black seat, fenders, tank, frame and handlebars. The first pic is my parts, thank you to Bruce(350xin'NY) for the seat and tank for 50 bucks! thanks Bruce. My second pic is my frame, that ive been wire wheeling for the past few days, then my friend just told me that he has a 5000 psi pressure washer, so im using that to take off the paint. The last pic is my 82 R thats seen way better days lol. Im using the mint tires of the 82 for the 84( 84 is my baby :)
In the pic with the frame you can see the PRO LINK behind if you look carefully. I will post more of the frame, have 2 more pictures.
cant wait till I get my Boyesen reeds, New seat cover, Wesico piston and gasket kit :) :) ( next week, or a little later when I get my paycheck)

If you've got the money (about $250-$300), strip that frame down do the bone and take it in to a powder coating co. along with anything else you want recoated and they'll sand blast everything and before you have it coated you can inspect it for cracks, have them welded and then powder coat it all. It will look 100% better than painting it and the time you'll save from not doing the wire wheel bit can be used on something else as it looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you.

yah a farm shop it is, And sadly I would love to powdercoat her, but I just cant. Not enough money so im going to Prime it then use Tremclad High Gloss spray paint. lol Not the best but since its going to covered in mud most of the time, I say to heck with it.
I dont think its alot of work, almost done. Buy fenders, but the tank is a different story, any ideas? do I wire wheel it, prime it then paint?
then get my friends mom to re-uphoslter.

My 200e is in the middle of the resto ride, but its getting high-schooled, final Exams coming up in less than 1 week, I've got 2 finals, then 2 weeks off-so in that time she'll be worked on a whole lot. Kind of cool how all of us 3 are working on our trikes now.

Sand blasting is the best and quickest way to go but wire wheeling will do the trick too. Before you prime it, wipe it down real well with lacquer thinner to remove residual grease and such. Before you apply the finish coat wipe it down with a tack cloth to remove fine dust and you'll get a nicer finish.

Looks like a big job. It should look good when you are done.

dont wire wheel your tank. sand it down. u dont need to get everything to bare metal to paint. and try and find some gas resistance paint for the tank.

O i remember i used gasket remover to get my paint off the tank. spray the whole tank down with gasket remover, let it sit, wipe off, then do it one more time. dont let the stuff sit on your skin(it will burn) porbly should ware gloves. o well. good luck.

gasket remover eh? well I think im sanding with 100 then 200 then 500 grit and so on, then im Priming it then painting with a Special kind of paint by my local shop made for gas tanks so it doesnt chip.
I was getting all caught up in the idea of making it look perfect, but the thing is, I ride trails, and woods and everywhere. I will be putting some serious miles on this unit. So I figure, make it look nice but dont make it a showbike, no point for me.

yah, my local ski hill still has to pay me my 400 check then i get my piston, gasket kit and Boyesen reeds. Im figuring about 200 for that stuff, is that about the right price?
200 sounds way low if you ask me, are you going OEM piston or wiseco? wiseco's are 150-250$ :\ boring is like 50$
