Serial number ?

I bought a 1983 ATC 185S, I looked fro the serial number on the frame behind the light but did not see it. Are the numbers punched in the frame or was it on a tag? I see no evidence of grinding in the area either. Also I did not completely scratch off all of the paint there either, I just did the area where it shows on the registry page. Are there any other places on the frame where it could be stamped in? The registration card is listed as NO serial number. Thanks for any help you can give.

well you could quite possibly have an aftermarket frame....there should be a stamped number and a tag on the steering stem, also there should be a sticker stating the build date and year of the machine also the model.....

does the 185 have rear suspension, or is it made out of aluminium

There is no rear suspension, I am not sure about the frame being aluminum though. I will check it out tomorrow.
