I have a OEM manual , checked primary coil, Ohms out @ 235 grounded to
stator assy. Removed and cleaned stator assy . Tested coil with honda coil tester (ebay goodie) good spark. Ohmed pulse generator -Resistance 30 Ohms, Gapped pulse genarator to 3mm . Checked kill switch with meter working properly . Timing seems to be on but will double check. Whats wrong with this picture? I did not get the CDI checked out but they say its not something that usually goes bad. Also checked out all connections . After all its a very simple wiring harness. Searched all threads on board for spark problems any takers HELP! Put my finger on the plug and pulled rope hoping it would nock the sh*t out of me but only barely felt anything.

make sure the contacts on the magneto are slick and clean, i had a similar problem, and a good cleaning (carb and electrical contacts, and cam chain adjustment) was all it needed,,,hope this helps,,,what year is your's?

uhm..u try a new plug..or cleaning it at least..when i clean mine i use a wire brush and some gas..it gets all the gunk off and leaves it shiny again :) ...if its not that then check trailprotrailpro kill switch and stuff make sure its on..<-- not trying to make u look or sound stupid but alot of people actually dont do this

... first off, are you 100% sure its an ignition problem?. You should ALWAYS trouble shoot as if its fuel related first, since thats where most of your problems lie.

What kind of actual spark are you getting from the plug (if any)?? Red, orange, skinny light blue, or fat blue??

Check the coil again, with meter, check plug wire seperately as it could be faulty and not the coil Could be cdi related, they do fail (mine did). Your manual should have testing procedures for the cdi but its kind of pain. Good Luck!

Cam chain adjust may help will look into it if theres a sloppy cam chain may cause firing problems Going to look at Coil again closely and CDI next.

I noticed when i did spark checks before that i would get almost all of those types of spark. What does each one mean??

It sounds like either pulse generator or cdi unit. Usually on the ATV's that I have worked on, when the pluse genny goes out there is no fire and when the cdi fails it is weak or sparatic (s/p?) fire.

I just finished another check Timing Ok- This time i cut back the spark plug coil wire and tried sparking to engine base I could see a thin blue arc shoot out about 1/8" and I
could feel it when i grounded it to myself holding the end. But no where near the thick blue arc that when you accidently touch it your arm goes numb. Believe me its happened a couple times. I'm just trying to explain what i see I know it sounds stupid to touch the coil wire. I think the Exciter coil is next may need a new one I think it OHM-ed out at 235 or something like that Specs say 150 to 400 Ohms?????? It would be so easy to just get new parts and change out till its fixed .Im using parts from other bikes.

The pulse generator ohmed to 30 which is within specs. CDI they reccmmend a special piece of equipment to check I don't know how to do it right with a fluke meter '

My 200s is running now i wanted to follow up so that others may have future reference : I am getting a thin blue arc and decided to put a plug( old) in it and try and start it 2nd pull it started Carb need adjustment but thats another story I can not say what exactly made the difference but I will note that the stator was swapped out (of another 185) and cleaned the magnet it had lots of metal powder and dirt : NOTE 235 ohm reading on my other post apparently acceptable . Made sure coil was screwed in tightly to wire. Checked timing was ok. Set pulser gap 3mm . Other than that who knows
Spark still does not impress me . Lawnmower plug brighter. Oh well hope this helps someone.

I find that Honda 4-stroke trikes are picky about the plug. Many times I will be fighting with a recalcitant trike that does not want to start, and a new plug fixes the problem. The spark can look great on the old one, but it wants a new one.
