I'm having alot of problems with the kickstart on my 200x. First it grinds and slips when I kick it, and to top it off it will not stay up in the folded in position. It just kind of folds back out by itself. Is there supposed to be some kind of spring that holds it back or is it just stripped and needs to be replaced? Also does anyone know if a kicker off a 250r or 350x will work cause I know where I can get one that is chromed and looks pretty decent. thanks

what year 200x kicker? I can tell you a 86 won''t work with anything but a 86 200x kicker. Ilost my kicker at one time, and a 85/86 r one won't work, 250x won't(but will work onthe r). a 350x one has a huge shaft. I'm sure hey are still avaiable from honda, I know a 86 one is. As for the licker slipping, my 250r did that, the geears need to get replaced. I don't know that much about the inner workings of a 200x, but the r has two springs and big gear and alittle gear. I'm told the 83-85 200x has the gears inside the inner case(you have to split the cases).

It's an 85' I just had the motor completely out and disassembled, I had the inside kicker spring replaced cause it was broke. I know there are two weird shaped gears on the inside (not exactly inside the motor but on the outside of the engine case right behind the kicker) I know they were in good shape. I don't remember if there was supposed to be any kind of washers or spacers on there with those gears. seems like maybe they aren't lining up right inside, and thats what makin it grind and slip. But does anyone know why the kicker won't stay folded straight up and in towards the rear fender? Is it possible it is stripped and needs to be replaced. They aren,t that much $$$$$ on ebay when you can find one

If its vibrating open as you ride, I know what your problem is. That part at least. On the inner hinge surface, there is suppose to be a small ball bearing with a spring behind it. Its in the arm part. There is also two little dished out spots that the ball bearing rest in while in the closed position and open position. On the hinge piece that has the splines. THe surface in between the two could be very grooved also. It shouldnt be. If its real grooved in between the two rest stops for the ball it will open real easy. Too easy some time. My ball bearing and spring were gone. THe hole that they go in had been damaged and allowed them to fall out. Look at the hinged area real close and you will se what im talking about. Just went thru this with my 350X. Do be warned 350X kickers are know for breaking. :beer The internals are another animal. I did that too.

Having the same problem with my 85 200x too, I dont take much of it, just fold it back in and ride for another 20 minutes, until it folds out again, only one time did it really piss me off, I was riding and it came all the way down (i dont know how) and it stuck there for the whole time I was riding it, no damage was done as the bike started up right after I turned it off, so I just kept riding and made sure it never came down that far again...as for the slipping kick start, im also having the same proble m(damn 200's) and am very eegar to get it fixed, and quickly...
