Is the rod bent or is that just the picture? How long did it make noise before it blew up? I feel your pain

That's more than piston slap, looks like a piece of a bearing made it's way up on top. That rod does look shot.

Ill second that OS! It wasnt just piston slap that caused it to stop dead, and bend the rod. Ill add another vote to chunk of bearing or piece of ring causing sudden piston stop during a stroke, and bending rod.

Well I havnt got it apart yet but ,from what I can tell all the bearings are intact. You will have to bare with me untill I get it apart. It looks to me that there was enough play in the cylinder that the piston was catching on the exhaust port causing some major shredding. The crank still moves freely but the rod obviously does not. Luckily I have another bottom end to help out with parts but the cylinder is going to definatley need to be redone. I plan to have it nikasil-ed assuming that this is a better idea than sleeving, right? Im sure I will be posting quite a bit on this topic giving updates and looking for advise. I'll try to take pics if I remember and keep you all updated. I'm thinking (from what I have gathered so far) that this oversite is going to cost me about $300. Any one want to buy any hard to sell tecate parts to help finance my project??lol later---Joe 8)

Hey TC, when I needed a rod in my 87 tecate I went w/ a KX rod, It was easier to find and cheeper than a KXT rod. Im not sure what year will swap w/ the 84/85 tecate, but someone will be able to help out.

Good luck w/ the rebuild let me know if you need anything
